When was the last time a conservative comic was actually funny with or without conservative politics?

Dennis Miller?

He was, a bit. Before his writers left him.

they had all summer and their "cold open" was that turd? the only time i laughed was miley's intro mostly because the fat girl did kim davis perfect. the first sketch after the open (1955 dance) was the std. the first two things are normal and the 3rd thing is crazy different... repeat 3 times... end sketch......

i too got to the start of the lesie jones weekend update yelling at the viewer bit and finally made the call after many years of viewing, that this crap show is removed from the DVR scheduler. if something funny actually happens i'll be made aware of it through some internet source and watch then.... but wow the first 50 minutes were a disaster.

It wasn't great, but I don't think Miley Cyrus gives you a lot to work with. The best episodes seem to go like this:
1) Christmas.
2) A really funny reoccurring host like Baldwin or Timberlake.
3) The shows that are basically reunions from a decade.

I'm really looking forward to the Tracy Morgan one. I have a feeling that will be the best one of the season outside of Christmas.

The biggest problem with SNL is that they seemed to have filled the cast with nondescript moderately funny and quirky white guys. I cannot imagine that some of these guys are the best improv people in the country right now.

Morgan better bust out his homeless character. Or, at minimum, Brian Fellows.

I liked the Astronaut Jones skits

The Astronaut Jones skit with Britney Spears was funny. I don't think she knew he was going to say that:

Anyone who doesn't watch that is a bad person, btw.

why do you think tracey morgan will be a good episode? guy was on the show for 10 years or so and wasn't funny on the show. brian fellows? any idiot could be funny acting weird with animals. he left the show and remained not funny. the most notable thing he has done post SNL was get run over by a walmart truck

I think it will basically be a reunion of his time there, and also 30 Rock.

Also, if you didn't like 30 Rock, then you probably should just stop watching SNL since it clearly isn't your kind of humor.

Tracy Morgan is a guy who IS funny as a standup, but not a funny sketch actor. When it comes to sketches or 30 Rock, the guy just doesn't know how to deliver a line. What made me like him, however, was his interviews with Stern, and then I went back to check some of his standup - pretty good.

Brutally unfunny episode tonight. A couple nose-laugh moments during the Weekend Update, but that's it. I don't really like Amy Schumer, but I don't think she did a bad job. I just thought the skits themselves were horribly written. She didnt have a chance to be funny. Thank god for DVR. You can watch the full 90 minutes in less than 20! Good news for Jimmy. His girl is next week's musical guest.

Dead fucking spot on. Horrible episode that I switched off in the middle of another horrendous Weekend Update.

Oh, and if someone decides to take out Bernstine, do the world a favor and save one for Nicki Minaj as well.

Unless he's doing an impression, Jay Pharoah is terrible.

I think Dennis Miller’s best work as a comedian was on SNL. But in the last 10 years or so when he became more overtly political, I thought it caused him to lose his edge as a comedian. His political ranting makes him sound more angry than funny.

With the exception of a funny line here or there, the skits were all pretty bad. I thought the material in Schumer's monologue was average. I don't understand why she's hailed as being especially funnier than anyone else or groundbreaking. I know she has her own sketch comedy show on cable but there were female leads in sitcoms on network TV 30 and 40+ years ago.

I've seen funnier women on Last Comic Standing or, going back 25 years, MTV's Half Hour Comedy Hour or on Comedy Central when they used to show lots of stand up comedians.

Do it up. She sucks even more than he does. And is way louder about it. Leslie jones is easily one of the worst cast members in the show's history.

I liked Shumer's open. It was just her doing some stand up. Keenen was terrible again in what has to be his 200th episode. The white weekend update guy is just god awful and I think he is a writer. I like Che. Just let him do it by himself.

I didn't watch, but I'll assume Keenan played five different black characters with the exact same mannerisms and voice for each one.

He's the head writer. He's probably Lorne Michael's fuckboy, because IDK how he get's that position otherwise.

That makes a lot of sense as to why this show kinda sucks now. That guy is more suited to be coordinating the entertainment for the DNC.

Colin Jost is the new head writer/weekend update person, taking up the unfunny, bland white guy mantle from Seth Meyers. Jost might actually be worse than Meyers and that is quite an accomplishment for a human being. They are the new archetype for SNL: non-threatening, emasculated, asexual, and boring, with anuses prepared for insertion whenever Lorne requires it.

I am an unapologetic Kennan fan. I think he's a solid performer and his characters are almost always funny:

Diondre Cole
Grady Wilson
Resse D'What
D.J. Dynasty Handbag
Bartender
Charles Barkley

I like Keenan too...

Michael Che is pretty good.

Jost is ok...he was better with Cecily Strong.

Schumer's open was good. I like her standup act, though...I fell asleep about 5 minutes later, and haven't gotten around to watching it on DVR yet...

I'm looking forward to Tracy Morgan next week.

Bad, and not a lot of talent on this show. A lot of the recent seasons actually have some pretty good rosters of talent that went on to good success afterwards. Hard to imagine many of these guys doing much going forward outside of Keenan and maybe Kate McKinnon.

Even the really talented Jay Pharoah has seemingly disappeared though he did show up to do the least funny thing he's ever done during Weekend Update.
