Since this had very little to do with the original "Cloverfield", it's been branded as a spiritual sequel and it is just that.

But man, this movie packs a punch. I didn't really read a lot about it to keep the mystery tightly shut and watching it unfold is a great experience. The performances are strong, especially from Goodman. It's a shame stuff like this will get passed over at the Oscars because it's a damn strong role.

There's a good portion of this film that my jaw was agape, and my hands were gripping the seat. It really does keep you on edge.

I'm thinking the ending will divide people, but i was fine with it. However, it doesn't have much of a replay factor, because most of the fun is waiting to see what happens next. When you know, it kind of kills the point of seeing it over and over again. But for the ride, it's worth it.

:D :D :D out of :D :D :D :D

Love your reviews, but if that's the case, how can you go back and rewatch Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, The Wire, etc?

What is its relation to Cloverfield?

There isn't much of one, in terms of what a typical sequel would be. But there are hints and echoes of it a little. Actually the original story of this film had nothing to do with it and was called something completely different and then it was co-opted by Abrams people.

Ed, what you're talking about are character driven tv shows. This movie is driven by the mystery and intrigue. Do you ever need to read an Agath Christie novel twice?

Agreed. Good movie. End was odd.

I don't think there was any link to the original Cloverfield unless I missed it.

the reveal of the last 10 minutes is the only real "connection".

odd, yes. but pretty well done.

although i cannot get the story of howard's daughter and the other girl that was a victim out of my head. a real haunting film.

Moral of the story: John Goodman is more frightening than an alien invasion.

i know; but i think the theory is that they might be "related". like the cloverfield monster/alien may have at one point been from outer space. and it's possible these stories are taking place simultaneously. but they wanted to keep it vague.

I thought it was a really good movie. Goodman was excellent, and you're right, it's a shame the he won't likely even sniff an Oscar nomination. Still don't know what to make of his character - good guy or bad guy? A little of both I guess. Good intentions that turn bad.

Your review was spot on though. I was edge of my seat and then the ending hit and it immediately knocked the movie down for me. It was almost like they were finishing up and someone told them they had an extra 5 million to spend on SFX, so they tacked on that ending.

However, if they made a sequel to this and we got to see what happens in Houston and beyond.... I would probably sign up for that. I'm not opposed to alien invasions, I just didn't like how it felt forced at the end.

This movie was like getting a nice sloppy blowjob and right about the time you're gonna cum she falls asleep or her mom knocks on the door or something.

I didn't like the ending either, but the endings really are tough on these types of movies. If it winds up being nothing, then you basically have another "The Happening."

I finally saw this movie and couldn't help but think of John Goodman as Harry S. Plinkett throughout the film.

I was just expecting him to offer Michelle some pizza rolls.
