He'll be the next "Lunch with a Legend" subject Tuesday, March 5th at Morton's The Steakhouse downtown with ESPN Radio 1000 AM's Marc Silverman & Tom Waddle in an unusual arrangement where he won't be on live with the guys until after "Waddle & Silvy" wrap up at 1P that afternoon. Pretty soon, might ESPN's Bob Knight be out of a job?

According to the Website thebiglead.com, the 3-time NCAA Championship coach at Indiana turned ESPN analyst since 2008 might be on borrowed time at the network. ESPN has confirmed that Knight's contract is up after this season, but most people in the network's inner circle seem to think that Bob will not be retained for another season of college basketball broadcasts next winter.

Knight does have a few regular season games remaining, along with an Opening Round NIT game, and perhaps some studio work during the upcoming NCAA Tournament from ESPN's Bristol, CT studios. Other than that, no decision has been made regarding Bob's status.

A pair of incidents have marred Knight's tenure at ESPN. First, Bob appeared to fall asleep on the "College GameDay" set before a game last season. Knight was removed from the set this season in favor of onetime former Bull Jalen Rose alongside host Rece Davis & co-analysts Richard "Digger" Phelps & Jay Bilas from various college campuses this college basketball season. Second, during a game at Vanderbilt, Knight actually struggled to decipher the shot clock & game clock. Davis, who called the game with Knight, actually had to explain the difference to him. OOPS!

Perhaps the surest sign that Knight might be on the way out is who's now calling the shots in Bristol, CT. Knight was hired in 2008 by Norby Williamson, ESPN's longtime V.P. of Production and considered a favorite, according to multiple sources. Now that John Wildhack is calling the shots in Bristol as Norby's replacement since last year, it appears as if Bob's shtick has run its course. Knight will turn 73 years old (!) by the time college basketball tips off again next fall.
