Oh ok. I read it wrong.

Exactly. It was clumsy at the start, but that's to be expected. It sounds like they didn't do much of a practice run, or even know each other existed until four days ago. Jason did say he wasn't interested in fans being happy with the Hawks winning fifty games a years, and bounced in the first or second round. Championships matter. If that's a Bernstein projection, fine.

He said Atlanta has a bad reputation for having bad sports fans. He asked for people to call in and give perspective on that, as both hosts are from out of town. Conversation starting. All decent conversations, except for the fact the first call was a guy from Chicago asking Jason about the Bears. Probably someone here. Nice start.

All in all, work in progress. He's not "cloning Bernstein" as stated by some.

He came off as an airhogg, and that other guy is eventually going to flip on him.

It sounded kinda inconsiderate the way he talked over the other guy so much and never let him get a word in, and he needs to calm down and take some notes so he doesn't fear forgetting his thoughts.

That I do agree with. It's a longtime criticism of him though, so I hope it's something he can improve on. But yeah, he should just kinda take a breath and hand the floor over to his partner every now and then.

The Mac guy seemed like he had some stuff to say but didn't want to be rude and cut Jason off. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. It's their first show. They'll improve.

"I've been sent here to take it to the next level" he says while doing his lil' Danny impression....while talking about Georgia recruiting. Yep, two days on the job and he can talk intelligently about Georgia recruiting.

Totally agree. He's done it two days in a row now. I think Goff talks 95% of the time. To be honest, I think Goff has a lot more to say, but seriously give your partner some speaking time. With that said, Mac's comments have been pretty bland so I can't totally blame Jason. Goff could easily do this show solo.

Living in Atlanta, pretty weird to hear Jason on the air. I forget I'm not listening to the Score.

The problem with this station is that they brought in nearly their entire staff from out of the state. I'm not sure that is going to work.

He did about 7:45 ET the first night. Some guy called up saying that you don't need stars to win championships in the NBA because the Knicks and Celtics did in the 60s and that Jason was too young to remember that. Then Jason went off on him. He was right in everything he said, but maybe a little much for the first night.

Still, the best sounding show on the station.

The Celtics didn't need stars because they had Bill fucking Russell.

I hope JORR sees this. The Knicks, who actually won in the 70's, had plenty of hall of famers, as did the 60's Celtics. It didn't get much bigger than Cousy, Jones, and Russell.

Shoulda used the '04 Pistons obviously.

Mac and Jason had Sekou Smith on for 15 minutes. Didn't mention the Hawks once in the segment. How do you do that?

What's happening here? I'm not sure what inspired your initial post.

I don;t get the "I like Jason" vibe from most of the posts here. Which is fine. But lets not pretend that the people that are shitting on him here are fans of his. I'm not buying that.

If you think he sucks, that's cool. But following somebody to a local sports station in another town and pretending like you have to listen is crazy. Shit, there are guys here that I avoid at all costs. The morning guys, for example, suck balls (One in the literal sense).

I agree with pretty much all of that, I just dont know who you are referring to. Im not gonna reread this whole thread but it seemed like a lot of the guys like Donspiracy and Peeps who followed him to ATL are actually fans of his. I like Jason Goff, just not as much as other members of our message board do, so I tried it out a little bit and really hated his partner. Ill probably give it another shot soon enough, since I never like what's on the local stations after 6.

That makes sense. His partner is kind of a dope.

One thing I like is that the show (or parts that I have heard so far) has more of a national vibe to it. I look forward to Goff disagreeing strongly with something "mac" says. Should make for good radio. Right now, they seem to be feeling eachother out (if you will). I do agree that Goff is talking way more that the other guy, which is fine with me, but I assume will be corrected by his bosses...

One thing that will potentially start arguments between Mac and Jason is that Mac is a definite "JimmyPasta" type of meatball, and of course Jason is coming from the Anti-Meatball stance.

If that is the case then I hope Goff is indeed just testing the waters right now and waiting to strike. Within the first 5 minutes of his show going live he said he wanted to bring out the fire and passion of atlanta sports fans, so Im not sure he's gonna be Bernstein South.
