Being re-assigned. Too edgy for the whites.

Michigan State alum being reassigned to a show that will be profiling Michigan State abuse.

This will be a good test case for the current Friday boredom thread.

Not the one she was anchoring apparently.

I remember reading something to the regard that ESPN even acknowledged Sportcenter is worthless. You can just go online to find out what happened.

The two main Sportscenter shows changed format though. It isn't what you remember.

The Six and SVP weren't just score recaps and highlights.

ESPN is aware that they needed to flip the script. They just haven't been successful enough yet.

Probably still won't be interested. No need to see Van Pelt's boobs.

I thought the main edition of SportsCenter was still the usual format, and that the late edition with Scott Van Pelt was the different one.

Could be? Like everyone else here, I don't catch a lot of Sportscenter anymore. I just know that The Six and Midnight with SVP were considered Sportscenter and were definitely not traditional format.

Jemele Hill is a terrible legacy to the time slot which used to have the Mod Squad of Bob Ley, Robin Roberts, and Charley Steiner.

SC6 was a ratings bomb so this was going to happen even without the controversy

It always seemed like a bad idea because SportsCenter had had anchors of all identities working together for years -- sport,s the one thing that can bring us all together! -- so partitioning a black edition of SportsCenter was kind of odd. I'm sure Lady SportsCenter was in the works if Black SportsCenter took off (and we all know exactly who would be lobbying for the job).

It is interesting, though, that the most of the animus for SC6 was for Jemele Hill herself, then for the entire concept, with Michael Smith in so distant a third as not to register. I don't think anyone has had an ill word for Michael Smith, but Jemele Hill, yikes.

Years from now, we're going to find out that "Michael Smith" is just a bit, like the Eddie Murphy white make up skit from SNL back in the day...

Why does ESPN keep insisting it is not a demotion? Has there ever been a show broken up that was doing well in the ratings?

Nope they had Michael something and Jemele Hill on at 5/6 trying to do an urban variety show version of Sports center. SvP's is way better.

The show wasn't bad and was more interesting than generic sportscenter but it's still smart to not make mad 50 percent of the country when your job security is based on ratings.

I meant the 11e/10c one that used to be The Big Show was still a more traditional show.

she's a better journalist that a tv personality. thats what she excelled at prior to air time. or at least what made her popular. i rarely read her.

espn in 2000 came out with PTI, Around the horn, etc and they were awesome. they had the perfect afternoon programing that was needed and it was really smart decisions. these shows though opened the door for writers to start getting airtime and to start getting shows. kornheiser and wilbon were good. a lot of the old time writers on around the horn were good and new their place. they could deal with a 1/2 hour show 4 times a week but knew that their meat and potatoes were in writing. ESPN grabbed a bunch of them and put them on air and its been terrible. It all started with Jason whitlock. should never be on the air. decent writer.

Whitlock is one of the best in the business. He is logical and fair. Hill is a race monger and will end up probably at MSNBC as Madcow's bitch.

Whitlock is awesome. Hilarious and honest.

Agree about Hill. She is 99% political and social issues than about sports. Fuck her.

I mean if youre gonna do shit that's "outside the lines", look up Bob Ley. Professional as it gets.

hes a good writer. he's awful on television. he's not quick at explaining any against the grain view. i agree with a lot of it but its better on paper.
