This is one of the more bizarre media stories in a while: Mike Francesa returning to WFAN after just retiring -- which he announced he was doing over a year in advance -- in December.

WTH? They already offered him 5 million a year to not retire.

i think everyone knew when he announced it it was bullshit. He can't live without being on the air. He's another Jay Leno type.

Mac and Parkins were digging into this guy today. I've never listened to NYC radio. For those who have, what is the attraction? Does he actually do something that's better than everyone else, or has he just been doing it longer?

A lot of screaming. Also callers who act like the hosts are extended members of the family.

ZephMarshack could field this one better than I could, but I think it's just a force of habit/enjoy-the-fun-bad after years of enjoying Mike and the Mad Dog.

The Mac and Parkins segment was pretty damn funny. The audio of Gregg mocking Francesa is hysterical....especially after hearing actual audio of Francesa.

There are a lot of hilarious prank calls on youtube. Francesa is the best (worst) at handling them. Always makes it worse.

I'm hardly a Francesaologist but my understanding is it's a mix of older people who have listened to him for years and younger people who enjoy the show ironically and try to prank him or get him riled up.

After hearing Mac and Parkey's repeated shots I figured I'd give him a listen today while driving around central Michigan. As luck would have it I tuned in during a lengthy interview with none other than Eddie O. It was really good; ranging from cancer to the '94 rangers.

Then later that hour I tuned back. He had several callers who mostly touched on one of two topics; either thanking him for the Edzo interview or expressing their Jets angst. Maybe it is easier for hosts who are solo, but I enjoyed that he actually allow his callers to talk.

WFAN is now saved as a favorite on my radio.com app.
