Fans, you may have seen billboards in all the ballparks for the new MLB Network, set to launch New Year's Eve 2009, during the Playoffs & World Series. Although they've yet to hire anyone, a veteran sportscaster & noted baseball fan could be headlining the new MLBN. According to awfulannouncing.com & Sports Business Daily, Bob Costas, a fixture at NBC Sports & HBO Sports, could be joining the new MLBN in a marquee role with the new channel. Talks are said to be ongoing between the two sides, but it's believed that Costas could be splitting time between the MLBN studio & calling play-by-play, just like he did some 25 years ago when NBC was actually in the baseball broadcasting business. While talks are ongoing between Costas & MLBN, the network is believed to be close to hiring ex-ESPN & current Turner Sports analyst Harold Reynolds, New England Sports Network (NESN) reporter Hazel Mae, and quite possibly White Sox TV analyst Darrin Jackson. The new MLBN, believed to be available in 50 million U.S. homes at the start, will air 30 games of the 2nd World Baseball Classic early next year along with ESPN. It'll be baseball 24/7...

Fans, this thread was started by the "Chicago Sports Fan Message" board patron, SHARK. He first came to the board on March 15, 2008, which is the third month of the year. Currently he has 2,340 posts and likes to listen to hit radio programs on "The SCORE" 670, which is an AM radio station that has shows such as "Boers & Bernstein" and "Mully & Hanley". He mostly posts in the "White Sox" section of the "Chicago Sports Fan Message" board and uses a lot of emoticons to express his thoughts, as well as very in depth cutting and pasting of other web sites' infotainment.

Contrary to popular assumption, not only is Bob Costas hung like a thoroughbred, but he also owns the largest male unit in the wide world of sports.

Awfulannouncing.com reports today that negotiations with NBC/HBO's Bob Costas are ongoing, but MLB Network has announced today that Harold Reynolds, Al Leiter, Hazel Mae & Trenni Kusnierek have been hired, with more names joining the new baseball channel real soon. Just a little background on each of these folks... Harold worked this past season with TBS Sports covering Major League Baseball & also did some stuff with MLB.com after he was booted off ESPN's "Baseball Tonight" about 2 years ago, while Al Leiter was part of the YES Network's coverage of (you guessed it) the New York Yankees. Hazel comes to MLBN via NESN and the Boston Red Sox, while Trenni had reported on the Pittsburgh Pirates on FOX Sports Net Pittsburgh & the Milwaukee Brewers on FSN Wisconsin. While you've never heard of Hazel & Trenni, fans, I maintain that one local guy in particular will also be part of the new network. Don't be shocked if Darrin Jackson, who will be replaced by Steve Stone locally next season alongside Ken Harrelson on the White Sox TV broadcasts, says "no" to the rumored offer to work with Ed Farmer on 670 "The SCORE" and joins MLBN.
