I know there are fans of Howard Stern on this board. This will serve as the running thread for those who listen.

The last few non-vacation weeks have been great. F Jackie.

I turn it on from time to time. Not as much "must listen" as he was when on terrestrial. They replay it at night, don't they?

I used to listen to every hour of every show, now I barely listen. Hampton's Howie thinks he is still the same rebel he once was, but in reality, he has become everything that he used to mock.

I don't listen to any show hosted by a member of the Jewish faith.

It's kind of telling that his re signing received so little fanfare.

I would think the best way to do it would have been to come in today that announce there was going to be a special Friday broadcast this week, then make the announcement on Friday with a press conference...but that would mean he'd have to work on a Friday.

He probably shouldve done it at a bar and invited listeners, and had a cover band do some Harry Nilsson tunes, charged the listeners to drink and over -reported how many people showed up. I understand thats how you celebrate an important radio event

Terms of Howard Stern's new 5-year extension with Sirius/XM Satellite Radio were not disclosed, but when "The King of All Media" bolted terrestrial radio for satellite, that $500 million deal he signed previously had a lot to do with stock in the company from what I read. He was more than just a host, but an investor in the company as well.

Even though satellite radio hasn't taken off as well as Howard had hoped, the last place he wanted to be on was on traditional AM/FM radio again, where the FCC fined him and stations that aired his show a lot of money for what the Feds thought was indecent.

I get to listen pretty much everyday, but I was traveling and couldn't hear the announcement. I'll take another five years as opposed to getting to hear an announcement live that he's leaving. I only listened to the show regularly for a year before the Sirius move. I've been the guy that listens everyday since he went to satellite radio. There are segments I tune out, like porn stars, disgusting guests, Who You Crappin', etc. But despite the belief of many that don't listen, the show is much more.

Howard's well worth the money. Sirius had 600,000 subscribers when he came on. They also had a much stronger competitor in XM. Things changed a bit over the last five years.

do you stay tuned in for american idol and dancing with the stars discussions? do you think that the low-mid level staff IQ tests are a big huge deal worth investing countless hours of programming into?

anything else, robin?

i mean i want to like the show and get amused every now and then... but like, this show is a sinking ship. realistically, howard has sirius over a barrel and even though i had hoped they'd grow a pair and stand up to him and queen ophelia the narcissist of cuntington (that's some dude on SFN's signature. i have to bite it =) and be like "come the fuck on man, you're calling yourself jesus demanding a raise AND you want to work three days a week?"

my guess is that within a year or two tops he's working three days a week at least half of the time, and sometimes he'll do "late shows' where he comes in late. as i said in another thread, the real shame here is that we disrespect the guy... i mean do you have any idea how hard it is to make the most of your hamptons estate when you only have ~2.5 months of vacation a year along with THREE DAY WEEKENDS?! driving through long island ain't exactly pleasant, and we should thank jesus that he's willing to even give us three days a week. it's not american idol season until howard spends 2+ hours a week dissecting the show.

The American Idol talk does bother me. I cringe when sports talk comes up, and there's no Artie. There's plenty of other things I enjoy about the show. I did find the IQ tests interesting. I loved the way he played it out as well.

The amount of days he works, and vacation time has never bothered me.

oh and in that picture i posted way earlier beth looks like a demon. i think she's been a really horrible influence because he caught her famewhorishness and now howard's #1 concern is getting respect in the industry and with celebrities, as he knows he'll have enough fans to keep doing this as long as he wants, but as he said earlier in the year in a proper context "fuck the fans"

sorry i'm so vociferous about this, but i got a sirius radio/subscription for christmas 05 so i was there from day 1 of the satellite show and i remember when it was good but like, by late 2007 my subscription went out... and in particular, i've been ragging on this year because the loss of artie has been a monumental blow to the show. i have the show on here where he made the announcement, but they need to find a comedian/REAL HUMAN BEING to fill the jackie/artie chair.... they need someone else in there. the howard and robin show is just awful... they need someone in their 40s who you could actually picture having a beer with the fans, someone to ground the in reality as opposed to their proto-world of celebrity-type detachment

another example of how this show has gotten lame:

- the show is afraid to troll nowadays... in january of this year gilbert gottfried sat in for the news and when obama came up he did his gilbert dice clay where he said "OBAMA? YOU MEAN THAT genius? OOOOOOHHHHH!!!@" and did his usual race-trolling bit, and without artie there to help do the comedic schtick thing (he was great at riffing with howard like, when they did the ted kennedy impressions and shit...) so the staff freaked out cuz gilbert said the n-word and they bleeped it out of all of the replays of that show for the rest of the day/weekend.

wasn't this supposed to be a revolution? howard went and apologized for all the times over the years he said "fags" and it wasn't only that they censored the gilbert stuff on replays, they didn't let him back on for 11 months... and when he came on it was just an interview where howard did his psychoanalyzing schtick and talked about daddy issues and him being a father and gilbert's pain and rage and it's just like.... what? it's gilbert gottfriend, we wanna hear him act the fool.

then my brother told me he heard that they've said that robin put her foot down and there will be no more comedians sitting in on the news because THE NEWS IS TOO IMPORTANT! i mean, if the whole "anything else, robin?" wasn't enough, now without anyone in the artie chair and a ban on comedians hanging out for the news (a tried and true tradition) they've gone and sterilized what used to be my favorite part of the show hands down. it's not everyone clowning on the news of the day anymore (in fact, howard used to boast that the daily show ripped off their whole format off of how he did the news) it's just howard giving sporadic commentary on the news while he's got one foot out the door.

i think this stems from one point during the initial robin-in-guatemala charity trip thing, when fred or someone was busting her balls and she up and stormed out of the studio. they quickly went to commercial for a pretty long time and when they came back there was no mention of the incident on the show, the wrap up show, or ever again. i think robin's put her foot down because she's serious fucking business.... and she's full of shit too. i don't think there's any photographical evidence of robin finishing the marathon, which she left to go and get a bagel for energy.... and yeah. just all this shit.

howard has no other comedic talent in the room and with more robin (who was always the worst part of the show) and her fake laugh and howard left to navigate this solo, yeah, they better get someone funny/interesting/real to fill in the jackie/artie chair otherwise i see a world of contrived suck forthcoming.

the only other positive i think is that howard probably has a new set of quotas/incentives/bonuses so he might actually try hard to meet them! i bet he'll do a couple friday shows but not show up on monday.... and he might even open up his budget coffers to do some interesting things... so the show could be good for a minute.... or then again, maybe sirius was so desperate for howard that they bowed and caved and he has no such incentives/bonuses anymore... after all, you don't go and give radio jesus bonuses because he is Our Lord and Saviour.

/me has DA FIRE AND DA PASHIN FOR DA KING OF ALL 60 YAR OLD RICH BALD JEWS!

Wow. Da Fire and Da Passion indeed! I completely agree the Artie chair needs to be filled. Who knows, maybe by Artie? I give that a 10% chance, but I would love it.

it needs to be filled by artie. unfortunately, it needs to be filled by artie circa 2005 when he was still a drunk and drug addict.

No chance he ever works a Friday again. I would bet the three day weeks start immediately after the break.

howard, IMHO, wasn't very "bro"-like in that he turned artie's downward spiral into a bit... hell they used to show him nodding out and play sound effects and do a segment of the show about it. granted artie is likely headstrong enough to be like "fuck all y'all i can do this" and play the game well, so i don't think an intervention necessarily would have done anything.

nonetheless, i think all of us are in agreement that the show needs some sort of a comedian/entertainer in that chair to make the show more entertaining. back in the day jackie wasn't nearly as much of a vocal presence as artie was, but you also had more of an ensemble cast with KC, billy west, stuttering john, and etc. howard and robin being the two people driving a show was more entertaining many years ago before they became old rich out of touch and, quite honestly, boring.

lamentably, i'm willing to bet that they leave the chair open for the rest of the run. howard's on a mission to get respect from the media/celeb-o-sphere so he wants to have a good relatively clean and crisp show with no real controversy or possibly offensive moments in addition to his self-proclaimed excellent (psychoanalytical) interviews. we know that robin wants all the airtime she can get in order to plug her new passion in life, the 15 foundation and the consequent new york charity scene where all these smug self-important "socialites" run around "raising money for a good cause" / wining and dining while they save the world.

and if you don't like it, she'll walk out in the middle of a segment and it will never be brought up again.

howard was at his peak when he played it like he's a just-entering-middleaged guy with a young family and run-of-the-mill suburban long island life getting no respect as he tries to make it in the radio biz, all the while lusting over playmates and pornstars and calling out dumbass celebrities and politicans for being, well, dumbasses. unfortunately, as time went on and he got more and more money (he has always worked hard to hide his income to preserve what's left of his everyman image) and literally became hamptons howie.

some people say that the show was never the same once he got divorced, some say it was never the same after jackie left and nobody could really bust his balls... some say that when he started dating the horsefaced famewhore he started to change... others even say that the howard stern show really ended when he left regular radio with that big giant farewell parade... i personally believe that sirius started off with a bang and had enough momentum to carry it into and through 2007, but after that it started becoming american idol and shit, and once artie left the bottom fell out and we're left with touching moments like beth AND sandra benhard in studio?! OI VEY!
