It appears that he may not make it past this year or the early part of next year. He's being honored just about every day now. He was one of the reasons I turned to Sports Center every morning I woke up as a teen.

Ironic, I just referenced him two hours ago in tonight's Blackhawks thread.

Thanks Nas. I just googled a little bit about whats going on recently with him and ran across his Espy speech from this year. I don't know how he kept it together during the speech but Im certainly a mess right now.

I was a big Stuart Scott fan when I was a kid. I also liked Chris Berman when I was younger. What the hell was wrong with me?

There's nothing really wrong with Berman

When you were a kid you wanted someone who was excited about sports and that was Berman

Now you're a jaded adult and cant be pleased. What was wrong with you? More like what IS wrong with you?

What's wrong with all of us?

Meh, I also liked Dan Patrick and Keith Olbermann, and they're still my guys.

I liked Olbermann too. That being said I loved Bill Walton and I would pay to hear him announce a game.

I had a feeling this was the case. He really helped ESPN reach a new level. He was must watch TV when he was at his best.

I was neutral on Stuart Scott as a sportscaster but he seemed like a great guy.
I was a little shocked to see he pulled a Tiki Barber but you never know the circumstances.

btw now that stuart scott is a tragic figure and all that, does this mean that b&b will never again acknowledge that they used to refer to ESPN/employees as "the BOOYAHs" ??? is "BOOYAH!!!!!!" officially off limits for the rest of time? i used that last post of mine on IRC and i had 3-4 people jump on me right away like "not cool dude....very not cool!" and it's like "oh no.... does this mean another piece of b&b history is gonna disappear like count fagula and the golden age of GMs before it?"

I wasn't expecting otherwise, but Deadspin people are mourning this guy as a symbol of what ESPN used to be when I was always under the impression that Stuart Scott and his tired catchphrases were what made people miss what ESPN used to be.

Exactly. He's one of the main reasons I stopped watching ESPN. The people writing that on Deadspin must be too young to remember anything pre-Stuart Scott.

I get that you can say he was the one to finally bring a distinctly black sensibility to an office park outside of Hartford, but that's kind of over-intellectualizing doing the highlights.
