Here they go again!

THE FORCED NEED FOR A ROAST

I like Pat on the air, really only when he talks Bears and its great that they have let him be just a Bears expert.

And congrats on his longevity although he is the first to admit that he didnt play a real position that takes the daily pounding that a 10 year career would have taken at LB for example.

That said, .............WHY?

I actually hope it is a good event and not a bust like the last few. Still no desire to actually BOOK THE ROASTERS and Help them sell the Tickets? I assume Gould will be there, but still would be a good start, #54 would have been a good name to get and he might be so bored he might do it. Peanut? Wanny?? Just good names to put on the stage if you are going to do this.....I actually feel bad for Pat if its going to be Hub, Mitch, Mattty and Spiegs.

Do I have a better idea of someone to roast? Nope, but then again I would just not do it and would focus on an event like "THE SCORE" golf outing, that Mac carried on for years.

Mac made a big deal about 100% of all revenue went to Charity.

I believe this is a complete PROFIT event, sponsored, etc.

Kind of surprised he said Yes. Matty must have talked him into it.

From Larz...

Each year, a portion of the Score Roast ticket sales goes to a charity. This year, the proceeds will go to benefit the Honduras Agalta Valley Education (HAVE) Foundation. The HAVE Foundation's mission is the funding of efforts to improve education in this remote area of Honduras, helping students have access to scholastic equipment, books, computers, and other supplies.

Seems hard to roast a guy that people, probably even the roasters, only know 1 thing about.

Expect a lot of guy bends over jokes.

Mannelly is boring and a nice person. That's the last person you would want to roast. That's no fun.

There has to be some connection there that Mannelly knows someone involved in the charity.

But even then, what do they give? $1000? Pat just write the $1000 check and avoid this!

Better off roasting a random intern who has only been at the station 6 months and is on his or her way out.

Steve Stone was suppose to be roasted this Saturday the day before Easter and also during Passover. He turned it down. Then it was suppose to be Les Grobstein on the same day. Now it is Pat Mannelly on a different day. They must have realized most people would not go the day before Easter or to see Les. It is suppose to be a tribute now and not a roast,

I have mixed feelings on a roast of Les Grobstein. Isn't life itself a roast of Les Grobstein?

A Mannelly roast sounds sad. What do you say about a quiet, agreeable guy?

somebody from this board attending this roast needs to make a t-shirt that says "AGREE WITH DAN AND YOU'LL LOOK SMART" because who doesn't want a free beer from patrick freaking mannelly?

dude, love you love your show CH but you are dead wrong on this one. i'm of the belief that les does exactly what the fuck he wants to do in life and he's living the dream. the guy is some kind of archetypical sports nerd extraordinaire and like.... say whatever you want about the guy and you're prolly right, but has les ever struck you as a miserable bastard?

someone could pop up and talk about his seemingly-incessant need to "one up" everyone when you're talking about a sports topic and be like LOOK LES IS SO INSECURE HE HAS TO SHOW YOU THAT HE WAS IN THE PRESS BOX FOR THAT LEGENDARY GAME!!!! but i see it the other way around, the guy genuinely loves what he does and sees it like he's sharing his extensive knowledge/experiences with you and i mean, shit, i can tell you that when i worked at the library and helped les with the scanner back in the day he'd see me outside smoking and come up to me and say hello and next thing you know we're standing there talking sports for 30mins. my uncle still to this day mocks me by calling les "my friend" cuz les saw me @ wrigley and called me over and hey whaddya know next thing you know we're standing there for 15mins shooting the shit.

look at my rep around this board.... who the fuck is going to call me over for a 15-30min conversation in the middle of a ballgame? and why?

this is exactly what the dude wants to be doing because he does what he loves. life isn't mocking les... other people are mocking les to feel better about themselves.

edit: context. yeah i went all GIDF (grobber internet defence force) but it's quite possible you're referencing what i said @ the end about how everyone wants to make fun of les to feel better about themselves and that's a roast... idk if you're pro or anti grobber but yeah, i just dont wanna fly off of the handle here assuming that you're bagging on les when you merely might be referencing the fact that just about everyone else does.

As an insomniac and an eccentric, I'm extremely pro-Grobber. I was just referring to how everyone takes shots at him but he takes it all in stride.

+1000

Just look at the roastees on the Comedy Central Roasts: Donald Trump, Joan Rivers, Pamela Anderson, Justin Bieber, Charlie Sheen, etc. People want to see these types of celebs lampooned...not someone like Mannelly. Horrible idea.

Never underestimate people's love for anything to do with sports, especially Bear related activities. I personally have no interest in a Mannelly roast, but I'm sure there are enough fans out there who would love a chance to rub elbows with a former Bear.

I heard if you show up wearing a burgundy satin dress shirt with matching burgundy tie, a/k/a the official dress-up clothes of Scoreheads, you get in for free.

It's now a roast and toast.

So, it is now going to be a bunch of guys celebrating the months he spent working at The Score.
