Not sure about what paywall a few of you are referencing ... I don't pay anyone anything to read him and I clicked on the link and it loaded just fine. Learn about AdBlock or something, cretins.

Sox are a couple years away from being on 820 or 1160.

I don't know if the Sox have final say. At WBBM they said it was Ron Gleason's call and he got Grote for the Cubs. But if Brooks Boyer is tight with Ranger, I'm sure he would highly recommend Ranger.

But the WLS PD probably has friends that he would want to hook up for this gig.

After looking up 890, I'm a huge fan of this move.

Anything that will reduce the amount Chicagoans are subject to hearing Rush Limbaugh or Michael Savage, the better.

It wasn't really a secret that WBBM AM780 was just a 1 year placeholder for the Cubs until they could move to AM670. Score hosts were pretty critical of the Sox after the Cubs inked the cross platform deal with CBS. The Score cant wait to shed themselves of the Sox in favor of the Cubs. I gotta believe that Grote remains the Cubs pre and post guy and Rongey is gone. Good fucking riddance to both the Sox and Ranger.

Yes. He said that Pat Hughes is "too homespun" and too concerned with broadcasting for old women in Iowa, or something to that effect, while Farmer is "more real" and "gets it" and so forth. He once described the Ed Farmer/Steve Stone pairing as "going to graduate school for baseball." I found it preposterous.

To be fair, this was when Dan was still in the tank for the Sox, something unimaginable today.

There were Roe and Garry billboards all over the place in the late '90s. I don't know how someone couldn't have been cognizant of WLS. I didn't spend my childhood listening to WBBM (AM, that is; you bet I was rockin' Party Radio B96), but I knew that it existed.
