I read the board threads and thought the call was going to be a disaster. It was just a bland call with more of the same. Nothing ground breaking. Just Bears as usual. George looked nervous at times, but he really did not say much of consequence.

The team needs a John McDonough/Theo type to revamp the organization top to bottom.

Is it really that difficult for George to call a respected ex-player like Charles Tillman and say "would you like to be in charge of the search for hiring the next GM? We will donate $1M to your favorite charity."

It's difficult to imagine that Charles would do a worse job than George and Ted, or Bill Pollian. He's a near-HOF caliber player who didn't retire that long ago, a Walter Payton Man of the Year with impeccable credentials in the community, and smart enough to pass FBI training.

That should be who is fronting the organization today.

He's the first person who came to mind. Could he really be worse at it than Ted Phillips? I mean Hub wouldn't be better than Ted Phillips, but he wouldn't be that much worse.

There are probably 15 retired Bears who could do better than Ted Phillips.

At least if Tillman was the head of the search committee, they'd reach out to more than 80 year old Bill Pollian.

I guess I’m not sure where you are going with this. If the argument is Ted is bad and some ex-bear couldn’t be worse then I suppose that may be true but it’s still not a plan that a good football organization would follow. I’m honestly not sure why a recent ex-player would be of much use in that regard to begin with.

The next Bears GM will be black and the head coach may be as well. I think the GM pick will be solid. No so sure about the head coach. The cynic in me believes the Bears are doing this to shield management from criticism by former players and members of the media.

Chicago was home to arguably the singular greatest athlete/worst ‘GM’ in team sports history. (LeBron is up there too).

Why any Chicago sports fan would think on field performance would make a guy a good judge of GM talent, I have no idea. I’m fine with them pretending to listen to former players but picking the guy who’s picking the guys seems a different skill set.
