Somewhere around the Dionte Johnson deal. Probably a little less. I would love to get him locked up or 5 or 6 years.

He’s very talented. Yet he seems to occasionally do dumb things.

He was the most talented Steelers receiver. The Tomlin mystique is cracking.

Steelers have a lot of holes, and a couple other young receivers. The trade gives them a #40-45 pick to fill one of the holes.

I heard somebody on the Score saying Claypool is another guy that overvalues his talent level. We shall see.

Claypool seems like a decent player and the bears are better for having him in the receivers room, but I don’t know about him being #1 material or truly “worth” a 2nd rounder but I’m sure he will be fired up to get a chunk of targets in Chicago. His target-to-reception ratio seems kind of low.

He has the talent to be elite, and he'll get the opportunity. He would easily be the Giants best receiver.

Maybe, but if you take a look at who he has had delivering the ball (severely declining Big Ben, Mitch, and very green Pickett), I wouldn’t be too concerned at the moment.

I agree he would be their best, no question. If the giants had made the trade I would have understood it and it would have been an improvement over what they have. I’m just glad the giants realize they are a rebuilding team who have caught lightening in a bottle a bit this year and they are saving and acquiring picks. I think claypool is a good player but not a great or elite player. He’s good.

I’m on record in this thread saying I think it’s a good move for the bears even if I think a 2nd was a bit much. They have salary cap room and can probably sign him long term and it improved the team. I just don’t think he’s as good as you do, that’s all.

That's fine. He's 24, and he'll get the opportunity he wanted in Pittsburgh. I think he has elite talent. He's the guy I wanted most. Justin Fields will have a more challenging time missing him.

Because he's not a #1. He's talented but he ain't a 1. As a Steelers fan when I heard he was traded I was hoping for a third round pick.

Now Claypool gets a real QB again. The Kenny Pickett train has been awfully quite lately

Matt Canada is an idiot. Tomlin may be like Lovie when it comes to offense.

What's your scouting report? I thought he has potential to be 1. Curious as to why you think that's not the case. I also downplay the maturity issues as I assume those can be corrected over time.

The key word is potential. He has plenty of it but hasn't realized it. I'm not sure he has been willing to put it in the work to take it to another level. Both Cam Hayward and Pickett talked this week about guys not putting in the work. Next thing you know he is traded. I'm not some Bears hater so I hope it works out.

Martavis Bryant looked like he was going to be a superstar a few years back, before his problems began.

I am excited about the trade and hope it works out. But I will be honest the more I hear from the Pitts side of things the more worried I am that he will be a bust.

I feel much the same. We might just have two #2 receivers with different body types. Definitely see him as an upgrade but will try to reserve judgement until I see him play. Definitely seems like a legit deep threat and I've seen too many drops on relatively well thrown balls this year on those routes.

The WR FA class is not great this year and the WR draft class is supposedly not great, any guy they draft would take a year or two to develop, so the move makes sense.

There is a draft philosophy that argues that if you have a pick at the top of the first round you should only draft guys within 15 feet of the QB, so QB's, LT's, DT/DE's, it makes sense given the size and athleticism required for most of those spots is rare and those guys go early.

Still think that if they end up with a top 5 pick they should find the new Ryan Pace and be looking to trade down a few slots and pick up extra draft capital.

You have to rebuild your entire front 7 on defense and find 3-4 starting offensive lineman, that will not get done in one offseason, but you could certainly put yourself into position to compete for the NFC North next year because to paraphrase the eloquent Rev. Watkins, "They don't have to get much better, the other teams just need to get worse", and that is highly likely.

Wilbon was on PTI yesterday and hated hated hated the Smith trade, and had nothing to say about the Claypool trade because he would have had to say something good about the GM.

That reinforces my belief of the plus side of both trades because Wilbon, since he stopped writing a column every day and having to have coherent thoughts, has become the angry old man shouting at clouds.

very low for someone that big. We don't throw with nearly that amount of regularity and he has been target dependent.

so supposedly the packers were willing to do a 2nd for claypool too. that must have pushed poles to give up the bears 2 vs the ravens 2
