Because he can be cut with very little (or possibly none at all) impact on 2018 and beyond. Bears were not going to be able to spend all their cap room this year unless they went Eagles dream team mode.

If NE didn't sign him he'd be a risky gamble coming off a down year. But since everything the Patriots touch turns to gold everyone is convinced they seem something in him that means he'll be great. Btw not all NE free agents wind up setting the world on fie, remember Adalius Thomas?

To throw in a word I hate....this has bad optics all over it.

This looks like the Bears targeted Glennon as their "big money" FA and that's it. They are not mentioned in any other big FA's except Gilmore who apparently was too much money. So far, it looks like Glennon and the Demps of the world.

The signing basically is an admission that the Bears have a worse QB than Tampa since we got their back-up. And Tampa really isn't that great.......

He's shown flashes and probably takes the next step this year. Obviously you'll take once in a decade guys like Rodgers first but those guys don't come around often.

This was the year he was supposed to take the next step and he didn't. We'll see. He has potential but he is definitely not a franchise guy currently.

He did. The Bucs had a lot of issues on offense and defense and he did struggle the last 5 weeks of the season. That being said he still threw for 28 touchdowns. He's averaging 4000 yards and 25 touchdowns a season for his career.

It's 2017, not 1995. 4000 yards and 25 TDs is not impressive. He was 21st in QB rating last year. So no, he did not take any type of leap towards being a franchise guy.

It's sad that FF only looks at ratings. His rating was over 90 prior to his struggles after Week 11. His numbers were solid for any QB and were great for a 2nd year guy.

We're talking about franchise QBs and you want to include a guy who is not a top 12 QB by any type of criteria in the discussion. Talk about SAD!

I think Fox would be gone for sure, though Pace might get a second hire unless this season is a total disaster.

Let's go with the notion that Pace sticks around.

Now you've got a new head coach who will bring with him his own O.C. which means Glennon, (if he stays) will be on his third system in three years. If however you decide to cut ties with Glennon, you'll then have wasted a year of development on the QB you've hopefully drafted. but now he too will have to learn a brand new offensive system three years running.

This move makes no sense for anyone other than Mike Glennon.

Despite Goff laughing about Glennon's presser, the guy was pretty well spoken.

I love that fact that the Bears would not overpay for anyone except Glennon and were bidding against themselves.

Genius.

Winston is ahead of Cutler when the dumbass bears coughed up 2 firsts n a third plus Orton ... I'm confident Winston is a franchise QB, I still wouldn't give up 2 firsts n a third plus Orton.

That's how dumb the Cutler trade was.

Fucksakes I had forgotten how bad that trade was. And even tho at the time I understood why the Bears did it, I wasn't on board with it then.

Of course, at that point in time -for that guy with that talent- you make the trade. But still..

There is no plan. That's what irritates me as a fan more than anything. Its just this schmo doing shit at this point to justify having a job.

I got the impression from listening to Pace that he really believes that this is the guy.

So I don't expect the Bears to take a QB in the first 4 rounds.

This is it. Pace is betting his career on Glennon.

Good luck.
