Stan Thomas was a bust. He was taken at #22 as opposed to White at #7 so it may not be as bad, but still not good.

Alonzo Spellman was also taken at #22.

Grossman was good for 6 games.

But he and Haynes combined were the result of trading the #4 pick

Here is who they could have taken at 4

Terrell Suggs
Kevin Williams
Jordan Gross
Troy Poloamalu
Terrence Newman
Marcus Trufant
Nnamdi Asomugha

13 1st rounders made at least 1 Pro Bowl. Bears had 2 picks and got none.

I tried to forget that Michael Haynes ever existed.

Reading through this thread, I realized how many guys I have erased from my memory. Unfortunately, that is a good thing for my Bears sanity.

Like you said in your anti-Sox diatribe, no one can say things would have unfolded had they kept the pick, butterfly effect, etc.

Here's my attempt to put together an all-bust team going back 40 years. All 1st & 2nd round picks with the exception of the Angelo years where our top picks occurred in the 3rd round (2009 & 2010). Plus a couple other exceptions with DBs to fill out the roster.

QB: Cade McNown (1999)
RB: Curtis Enis (1998)
RB: Rashaan Salaam (1995)
WR1: Kevin White (2015)
WR2: David Terrell (2001)
WR3: Wendell Davis (1988)
TE: John Allred (1997)
OL: Stan Thomas (1991)
OL: Gabe Carimi (2011)
OL: Chris Williams (2008)
OL: Marc Columbo (2002)
OL: Marcus Spears (1994)

DE: Alonzo Spellman (1991)
DT: Jarron Gilbert (2009)
DT: Ego Ferguson (2014)
DE: Michael Haynes (2003)
LB: Shea McClellan (2012)
LB: Jon Bostic (2013)
LB: Al Harris (1979)
CB: Kyle Fuller (2014)
CB: Roosevelt Williams (2002)
S: Major Wright (2010)
S: Brandon Hardin (2012)

I'm going to go with Cade McCown, if only because of Baby McCown.

True, but at the time I advocated for taking Suggs no matter what. All time NCAA sack leader. He had a bad combine so some were scared off. Ridiculous.

And he was one of the best #2 corners in the NFL last year. Incredible.

That was a tough call. Ultimately, I had to leave him off in favor of Michael Haynes.

Al Harris was fine for a 2nd rounder.

Al Harris was the #9 overall pick in the 1979 draft (Hampton was #4). I wouldn't have included him, but I was desperate to find a third linebacker behind McClellin and Bostic.

yeah, not good for #9. I was thinking he was their 2nd rounder, not second 1st rounder. I'm thinking Theirry was still worse.

Haynes wins out because he clearly hated football. Way more into lizards.

 Those names. My goodness.

What a difference a couple of years makes.

Packers are going thru that now. Not a single player from their 2015 draft is on the roster.

Couldn't happen to a better team :D
