Interesting to read some of the trade scenarios involving the beloved. Usually would dismiss them as click bait, but after the Mack trade anything seems possible. Team does have some seemingly NFL quality depth at RB, DT, and WR which could be turned into picks or, even though it rarely happens in the NFL, be swapped for upgrades to TE and LT depth.

They seem to like Alex Bars and he did look competent in the second half of Indy game, will likely get a long look at him at LT in last exhibition game.

I think Davis gives them a 3rd down option. He can block and he's the power runner who can catch.

The RB room is full of NFL quality backs, a long way from the days when Brock Forsey was toting the rock for us. Montgomery looks like he could be a solid short yardage back and that makes him intriguing as a potential fantasy pickup. Someone's got to fill the goal line hammer role that Jordan Howard did last year.

I haven't been watching the preseason games - is Sowell strictly a TE now? Or is he still wearing a lineman number and reporting in each time?

If he makes the team it's likely because Shaheen isn't ready. Heard a report that he still doesn't have full range of motion in the ankle he hurt last year. The don't have another TE that can block on the roster.

Would love to upgrade backup QB, but Pace/Nagy are reluctant to bring in any real competition for Mitch despite Pace previously indicating he thought the team should draft a QB every year. Niners backups would be an upgrade over what we have, but it seems they are smartly holding on to all 3 until an injury forces someone to overpay.

OK but unless Nagy also guaranteed that should he do what he was told he would make the team it seems like a poor career choice. Sowell is 30 years old with 7 years as a pro. He would find continued employment for 3-5 years somewhere in the league as an OL.

I don't think they are afraid to challenge Mitch. Daniels is Nagy's safety blanket and so, it appears, is Bray. My guess is Bray is on the practice squad this year again and then is the backup next year when Daniels is out of contract.

The guy is going on his eighth year in the league. There is ample evidence he has staying power as a backup OL in the league and would not have been washed up at 30.
