With the bath CBS-to-Entercom is taking on the Cubs, I wouldn't be surprised if they let the shitty Bears go. If Cumulus gets in on them and puts them on 890, they may as well make it the third sports talk station.

I would prefer they stay on one of the three 50k watt stations in town, but that's just me.

Slight tangent ... was a bit surprised that they stream the preseason games online ... kinda figured they'd keep at least a bare-bones staff on hand to read news for someone that wanted it during a Bears game. I wonder if they do that during the season ... I wouldn't think so, but who knows.

Fuck I hope 890 doesn't get them. That station is static city for me usually.

Hopefully they'll still do the fm broadcast too.

I wonder if Joniak would go to 720 or 890 with the Bears. Because he has a full time gig doing the updates and 780. Thayer would go. The Bears are his only gig.

If 720 gets them, they'll have to juggle Blackhawks, Northwestern Football and Bears. That's a lot.

890 would have Sox, Bulls and Bears with the worst reception of the big three... 670, 720 & 890.

I wonder if AM 1000 is a dark horse in the bidding?

AM 1000 has an even worse reception than those 3.

Northwestern will rarely if ever conflict with bears. It would be an easy juggle anyways an NU gets bumped, just like with hawks conflicts now. Not sure how many hawks/bears conflicts there would be a year. Hawks don't have more than 8 Sunday games and all but one are evening games this year during football season. Playoffs could be an issue as well as Monday or Thursday nights but you might have 5 conflicts a year.

I don't think the Bears in the playoffs will be an issue...

Nope! WBBM through 2020, per Feder:

Quote:
“All of us at CBS Radio Chicago are thrilled to continue our 17-year partnership with the NFL’s most preeminent franchise,” Tim Pohlman, senior vice president and market manager of CBS Radio Chicago, said in a statement. “We thank the McCaskey family, Ted Phillips and everyone at the Chicago Bears for their commitment to keeping WBBM Newsradio 780 and 105.9 FM as part of this first-class organization for years to come.”

In addition to pre-season and regular season game broadcasts, WBBM Newsradio will also air a weekly coaches show hosted by veteran Bears announcer Jeff Joniak. All six CBS Radio Chicago stations will air a Bears noon update daily during the football season.

Great! Bears updates every fucking day on B96.

Also, in Rod Zimmerman fashion, the guy at Cumulus who signed the Bulls/Sox deals for 890 got fired. So, uh, probably not gonna make that another sports station?
