9 Bray, Tyler QB 6-6 225 26 6 Tennessee
4 Daniel, Chase QB 6-0 225 31 9 Missouri

10 (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky, Mitchell QB 6-3 222 23 2 N. Carolina

Frick and Frack backing up Mitch? OMG,to avoid any controversy,Pace brings in 2 bums to make sure there is no competition.

The Bears might win 6 with Mitch. What about without him if he's injured?

There is no controversy no matter who they would have brought in. Mitch is the guy. Period.

Daniel and Bray both know the offense and can help Mitch.

Coughlan can not play QB. Sorry.

Then they'll win fewer games and try to do better next year.

If Mitch goes down the season's dead anyway. No reason to put money into that position.

And before we point to the Eagles, that was a story for one reason: it's about as rare a situation as there ever was in that regard.

Daniel and Bray were both backups in KC under Nagy. They're there almost exclusively to teach him the offense and help him with terminology, the system, etc. Daniel is a relatively decent backup, otherwise.

Also Pace drafted (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky to be the uncontested starter. Jesus, your entire post is like a tidal wave of mindless gibberish.

The Eagles have more talent on their defensive line than the Bears have on their entire roster.

Chase Daniel really is a fine backup quarterback. I've got no problem with this. It'd be nice if they could spend late-round picks to draft QB's because even Chase Daniel-types get expensive but that's not happening.

If the Bears over/under for wins were 9 instead of 6, I’d agree with Jimmy. But as it stands, if things go south for (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky due to injury, they’re better off losing out and getting a better draft pick.

In that case, I'm very happy with the Bears backup QB options.

Stated perfectly.

You worry about a veteran backup QB when the team is actually knocking on the door of the Super Bowl.
I, too, am very happy with the Bears approach to backup QB.

I don't think there's much evidence to support the argument that Daniel is a relatively decent backup. He may be, but I don't think he's had much meaningful play.

Overall, if Mitch stinks or is injured, the season is over. He is the franchise.

Yeah, like when Josh McCown outplayed Cutler a few years back. There is no reason the Bears can't be Cinderella this year because it happens EVERY year in the NFL. It never hurts your chances to have a capable backup QB.

Stop this foolishness. (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky was drafted second overall. The Bears aren't going to set themselves up to clown themselves by having a backup lead the team to victory. I'm sure their backups are perfectly capable, as in "capable of playing in NFL games and not getting utterly destroyed."

The 6'6 guy looked ok but that Chase looked like he doesn't belong on any NFL roster.

I remember back when Bears fans were really obsessed with having a good back up QB. They went out and got Jason Campbell IIRC, obviously we know how it worked out. There's only 15-20 QB's in the league that can lead a team to any success. If you're not starting one of those guys or someone you are very hopeful can be one of those guys then you're just wasting time. Or at least that's the popular line of thinking, the Eagles did just win the Super Bowl on the back of a backup QB.
