So we Bears fan should be happy having hired a coach who was honest about his failure in the Tennessee playoff game? What fallacious reasoning. Though self-honesty is not a bad trait, the objective in hiring a coach is to select one that wins, especially play-off games. Nagy was one and done in the playoffs. That should have disqualified him. And if Pace was sold on him because of his leadership skills, as I've read, and not because of his mind and experience, then he is the wrong person in that GM position for missing the obvious.

Rube was....right....

Pace drafted a QB because he thought driving an old car was a sign of character.

He will be a good scout for someone.

Nate Davis has the Bears as the least desirable of the 6 open coaching positions.

Nate Davis on the Vikings O-Line...The offensive line is also young and solid. What?

I think Denver can explode if they get a decent QB. You've got a rising star at RB, respectable WRs and TE, and the D is solid. Add, say, a guy like Wilson to that team and maybe you've got a playoff squad.

Bottom line is that even if it were true, the 6th best opening in the NFL is still a dream job for almost any candidate.

Agreed.

Which is why Fangio got hosed when they let him go.

I have to assume Denver’s defense takes a step back without Fangio. And they’re in the toughest division in the sport.

Why not?

Possible franchise QB, early round RB, above average WRs, and an owner committed to winning. I'd just be concerned about the GM. I think the ownership is light years more attractive than Chicago.

Four head coaches in a decade.

I'd argue the Bears stability (inertia) makes them as attractive as any spot. Take Virginia to mass, be a good guy and you are practically guaranteed to last through your contract

The Bears have had four head coaches in the past decade.

Playing devils advocate here, but you have an owner who just turned 99 with no clear succession planning. It’s likely a new billionaire will come in and usually those types of people want to remake businesses in their own image.

If you’re not an established winner by the time that happens you’re an easy pink slip for the Arlington Heights Bears.

I suspect that this is the last hire that Mama Bear will see. I'm also confident that a succession plan has been in place for over a decade. That is literally something that the NFL requires from all owners.

If the plan is to put George in charge then there is no plan.

Have any of them lasted through their contract?

The Bears have thrown a lot of lost money at bad GM's and coaches over the last ten years.

Like TM pointed out, so have the Bears? They failed because it's been a QB wasteland until, possibly, now. Khan did the things we have been begging the team to do for 30 years. He hired Coughlin as EVP to whom a GM would report. The recent EVP left and I don't know if they replaced him, but still the EVP - GM - HC structure is something basic that is already implemented in an irrelevant place like Jacksonville while we in Chicago are stuck with a former Director of Tickets and an Accountant running the Bears. On this point alone I don't find your counter that working for/within the Chicago structure is more attractive to be compelling in the slightest bit.

The one thing I know of that I don't like about Khan is he's got his son involved as an executive. Not feeling that. But, hiring a football guy like Coughlin and then letting him run the football side is exactly what you want done in Chicago...

What do you think happens in an interview process? Maybe a guy you like, you hate in the interview. I initially liked the idea of Nagy but changed my mind and I was right.
