Eagles QB coach John DeFilippo has completed his interview with the Chicago Bears. Word is he’d be willing to retain Vic Fangio as DC, maintaining stability on Bears defensive side of the ball. @gmfb @NFLonFOX

— Peter Schrager (@PSchrags) January 6, 2018

Have been told that if John DeFilippo gets an HC job this year, he'll look to take WRC Mike Groh & assistant DL coach Phillip Daniels from Philly with him.

Also keep an eye on Todd Downing as Flip's QB coach. #Bears

— Aaron Leming (@AaronLemingNFL) January 6, 2018

Daniels and Groh.....2 former Bears.

He's a fast talker. Mully and Hanley were talking about this the other day and figured this might be the case with him and Pace. I'm not sure I like the idea of him as our next HC, too much unknown with him. I just don't think he's ready to take over coaching an entire team.

I know Schurmer (sp) is kind of a boring choice, but I like him out of all these candidates. And I don't think he really has a shot at the job.

I don't think Fangio likes Pace or ownership, he's gone.

I'm leaning towards this as well. Unless they are offering him one helluva contract. But theres an issue with that too -it can't be a bigger contract than the HC gets. And are you going to pay top dollar for an unproven guy to HC your team like DeFillipo?

A coach needs his guys in here. Keeping Fangio makes him head coach of the defense. That's a bad start for the guy you hire.

He's not that irreplaceable or he would be the head coach.

Ryan Pace is like the guy who buys the first car he bumps into on a sale lot. Then takes a 15% interest loan because they threw in an air freshener

That's not how this works.

Fangio will be a FA on Tuesday AM and will have teams interested in hiring him. If he wants to stay, he will. And if he doesn't, then he will move on.

The Bears have ZERO control over his future short of hiring him as the HC.

Pace is a chump, if he had the brains or balls to can Fox 5 or 6 weeks ago and get a look at Vic as interim HC. Even if he didn't hire Vic as HC, Fangio would be grateful for the opportunity and stay on as DC if he couldn't land a HC job elsewhere. I bet Fangio can't wait to GTFO of Chicago.

Cool story.

What does that have to do with the idea that the Bears told a potential coach they'd like to.keep him?

It was relevant when Fox was supposedly strongly suggested to newcomer Pace.

If Pace was the right man for the job( he's not) he would have said absolutely no to Fox or anybody he didn't want..he's a pussy, a yes man that will fit in great in Lake Forest.

The Saints have drafted MUCH better since that DIPSHIT ledt NOLA.

The knock on him is he doesn't have enough relationships to put together a staff.

If McVay can put together a staff then he can. He has been connected to the NFL since like 2005.

Heard the story of how McVay got Wade Phillips to sit down with him.

Something about one of McVay's friends knew one of Wade's kids and helped to set it up. Wade has a daughter he doesn't see much that lives in LA. Wade sat down with McVay, liked him, and accepted the job as DC.

"HC needs to failed run before he (or she, someday) succeeds" theory, e.g., Belichick at Cleveland.

Lions apparently having a handshake agreement to sign Matt Patricia as their next HC is good news for the rest of the NFC Norris division. Patriots defense ranked 16th in DVOA in 2016, 22nd in 2017--2nd to last (31st out of 32 teams) in overall defensive efficiency (whatever that means) in 2017. Should've stuck with Caldwell.

Hell yeah he does. She does burlesque shows around LA, or at least used to:

as if that has any bearing on being a good head coach. Football coach is one of those positions where being too smart is probably a detriment

I think a mixture of intelligence and instincts is a recipe for a great coach. Belichick is a great example.

If he really covets the Giants job he's on the right track. QB issues notwithstanding they might have the best OL and DL in the entire league. They should get someone to lateral over.

I think Belichick would have been successful in anything he did. Look at how foolish he makes the rest of the league look.

Also, remember that Belichick has his friend Ernie Adams as a consigliere of sorts, and that guy probably is a genius.
