#Bears denied permission for #Bengals to talk to Vic Fangio but he'll be free to talk to teams soon.

There might be something in the works where DeFillipo is head coach and wants Fangio back as his DC...that's what I see it as.

That's what's out there but I'd be very surprised if Fangio doesn't want to test the waters. And you know the Bears won't overwhelm him with dollars even though DeFillipo will come cheap.

And this continues to illustrate just how fucked up Bears management is on a regular basis.

He's a free agent. His contract expired as a DC with the Bears. Just not yet. It's just a matter of time before he can talk to them. Maybe his current contract goes through the Super Bowl. No big deal.

Teams must allow coaches to interview for Head Coach no matter their contract. But that's not the case here.

Nothing to see here. Nor would Fangio choose Cincy over the Bears as DC. Or if he would, it's smart by Pace.

I don't blame Pace. He's hoping Cincy finds a guy before they're allowed to talk to Fangio. That's actually a smart move by Pace since they want to keep him.

Goodwill means something, despite what the IRS may say. And they're already screwing it up. Again.

If he's gonna leave, he'll leave. Might as well delay the process if you can. Hoping Cincy finds another guy.

What Fangio has built here is better then what they have in Cincy. And the weather is just about as shitty.

Why attempt to be a pain or fuck over anyone you have control over, especially in this immediate information age?

And how then do they stupidly act as it occurred in a vacuum?

Yeah this already feels rather reminiscent of when the Bears demanded head coaches they were interviewing had to keep Marinelli, but unfortunately didn't confirm they were actually going to be able keep him anyway and lost Arians as a result of this demand.

This is just pissing match stuff. He is free to interview on tuesday. There is really no point to blocking him. The Packers didn't put in their request yet just to avoid this crap.

The Bears really want Fangio back to pair with their new head coach. Not sure why you mensa candidates can't grasp that.

So you’re in favor of limiting your head coaching candidates to ones who agree to keeping the existing DC...thus relegating them to a 2nd tier option? Brilliant.

IMO, I think Pace wants Defillipo and he reportedly has said he wants to keep Fangio. This could be worked out either way by Tuesday when Vic is a FA.

Assuming Fangio didn’t ask the Bears to deny the request, it’s a classless move.

It has nothing to do with class. And Fangio was aware it would go down this way. He is under contract.

Try harder.

Under contract for two more days. You think the Bears will have him signed by then?

I don't know. But I do know they want to keep him.

And blocking interviews is a very common occurrence in the NFL.

Yes, though I’ve never heard of a team blocking someone when they were a free agent (or days away from being one).

So the way they show their desire to keep him is to limit his leverage? That would piss me off and make it less likely for me to sign, all things being equal.

Obviously if he is announced as the new head coach, this is all moot.

But Fangio isn't pissed because he knows they want to retain him here.

That's like saying Dave McGinnis knew the Bears wanted him. Of course they did, but at their price.

Now you are trying to hard.

If anything, the Bears have wasted millions of dollars on bad GM's and coaches.

And Michael McCaskey wanted him at his price. Which is why he was moved out of his job when he made that mistake.
