But that’s beside the point. There’s only so far an Alex Smith led team is going to go every year. That’s not on the coaching.

I dunno, it seems to me there's a weird dynamic in this discussion where we're crediting Nagy with whatever Smith did achieve while suggesting any failures are down to Smith's own lack of talent. I can get on board with the idea that players have talent ceilings but then that idea seems a bit in tension with the notion that Nagy's a great hire because of what he'll do for (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky. Mitch himself may not ultimately be a good quarterback either. If so, will that be Mitch's fault or Nagy's fault for not getting more out of him? This kind of calls into question the whole point of getting a "quarterback whisperer" in the first place if we're just going to preempt any criticism by citing a failure on the part of the quarterback himself.

You can pick them.

I think you are wrong if you are crediting one of their coordinators for the play of a HOF QB. I cannot make this any more clear.

So what organization should they strive to be?

Probably the Steelers. Three head coaches in 50 years. Slowly diversifying ownership group. Excellent on-field results for a team not the New England Patriots. Wins the division 1/2 the time, three Super Bowl wins in the last 12.

I'm counting today as year zero.
Young GM, Young QB, Young HC (Offense). I'm good with that for now and the next 2-3 years.

It really can't get much worse than 6-10, 3-13, and 5-11. Can it?

They could go 2-14, 1-15 and 0-16.

At least then they would get a parade.

That would be far more entertaining than if they went 6-10 or 8-8.

The Bears had a coach who could keep the team competitive in cycles but they fired him because he was starting to challenge Phillips' dominance of the organization.

No. They fired Lovie because his teams kept missing the playoffs. Firing Lovie wasn't the mistake. The Trestman, Emery, and Fox hires since is what has killed the Bears.

Yep. As happy as I am about the Bears not hiring another retread like Fox, this still reeks of just cluelessly trying to follow a trend and hope for the best (and of course save the McCaskeys money too).

So its ok to draw this clumsy line but not ok to draw a line between the Reid coaching tree?

You’re having a problem with logical consistency.

FF,
Can you just say what you think of Nagy? It seems like you are shooting down valid concerns while being careful to not say they are wrong or this guy will definitely succeed.

I mean even the biggest hater of the hire knows that there is some chance he is great and the future of NFL coaching but you are acting like we shouldn't even question anything.

Pedersen has them as the 1 seed and in the Super Bowl in year 2. Should we expect similar in the next two years?

Well I answered this in the other thread. But my post here was only directed at ZephMarshack and him dismissing the Reid connection while at the same time saying the hire sucks because well it sucks with no reasoning behind it. He listed no valid concerns in the post quoted.
