Naw, he told Pace he could hire anyone he wanted as long as they would be the lowest-paid HC in the league. After all, they're still paying Fox and those RC-Cola savings aren't going to pay for two head coaches.

I hope so.

5th in the league in total offense and they rely heavily on using a tight end.

Even the Chiefs think it kind of sucks to be the Chiefs.

That’s because Andy Reid always chokes in the playoffs.

Some of these comments are hilarious. Bear fans mocking the Chiefs offense!

It seems like a good hire but obviously nobody knows anything right now.

It's only because ~48 hours ago the Chiefs were pissing away an 18 point playoff lead. I have a buddy who is a Chiefs fan, and I would much rather take his team's recent history over mine. The Bears haven't played a meaningful game in December since 2013.

So once again, why can we not talk about the future? Of course Matt Nagy may be the next Vince Lombardi. That doesn't mean that you can't be underwhelmed by a guy with very little experience coming from an organization that while better than the Bears, isn't exactly one that Bears fans are jealous of.

I don’t have an issue with you being skeptical. But to act like it’s a bad hire right now is unnecessarily defeatist.

Also, I just find the idea of Bear fans mocking the Chiefs offense amusing.

Brick one of the guys you said you would like has about the same experience as Nagy and was never an OC. And the Eagles havent been that much better than the Chiefs

FF is trying to do the level headed trolling thing. If it was pointless to talk about the future in sports, it would be pretty boring discussing our favorite teams.

Since the Bears fired Lovie Smith, here is what the Chiefs have done;

2013 11-5 lost Wild Card game
2014 9-7 missed playoffs
2015 11-5 lost Division game
2016 12-4 lost Divisional game
2017 10-6 lost Wild Card game

On the surface, 4 playoff losses in 5 years sucks. But take it a steap further. Put that list above up against a 27-53 record with zero playoff games over the same time frame. Yeah I'm jealous of a team that has 4 playoff appearances--two of which are division titles.

Chiefs best the Eagles this year.

Nagy > DeFillipo

Of all people, Bears fans should not be mocking anyone's offense after this past year

I’m not saying it’s pointless. Try predicting the future all you want. Let us know how it goes.

I said in the other thread I like the hire. I think it’s more defendable than the last two hires. We’ll see.

DeFilippo isn't even an OC! Why is everyone drooling over this guy? He's the QB coach on a team where the OC doesn't even call the plays.

I apologize if it seems like it was a bad hire. I think it's an uninspiring hire and I feel that others have a better chance of success.

As for me mocking the Chiefs offense, that is because you fail to try and grasp the fact that while the Chiefs would be an improvement from the Bears current situation I would not use the Chiefs as a model franchise. Do you think any bad team in the league says "You know, when we get really good, I hope we are like the Chiefs!".

The Chiefs had the 5th best offense in the league this year and are one of the 3 or 4 best teams of the last 5 years. Yes, I think that’s a fine franchise to try to copy.

Of course everyone wants to be the next Patriots. That’s simply unrealistic.

Well, if we set the bar there then the Bears fans would be jealous of a team like the Lions and Vikings too, and they haven't done much of anything either.

Neither the Vikings nor the Lions have made the playoffs 4 of the last 5 years.

Reminds me of the Trestman hire. QB whisperer with predominant background in Canadian/Arena league. Hopefully as entertaining.

True, Trestman had a better resume.

I'll take the Patriots, Packers, Steelers, Broncos, Falcons, and Seahawks over them. I probably take the Panthers, Broncos, and Cardinals though some of those teams are struggling a little now.

Don't get me wrong. If we end up as the Chiefs that's fine I guess. Making the playoffs and knowing you are going to lose is better than what the Bears have now.

Make the case for the Cardinals being a better organization than the Chiefs over the last 5 years. Should be interesting.

The Patriots, Packers, Steelers, and Seahawks also have HOF QBs. Kind of hard to imitate that. Especially if you have (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky.

Jokes aside, the Chiefs might actually be the best thing the Bears can aspire to. Like the Bears, they're a mom-and-pop business that likes to think it's above the grit and grime of football. They sell out their stadium, make the playoffs about half the time, but generally remain subordinate to a true prestige organization or a big sloppy mess that occasionally gets it right. That's about the Bears' ceiling, just change Broncos to Packers and Raiders/Chargers to Vikings/Lions. A better Kansas City Chiefs would be great, seeing as they're currently a lesser Cincinnati Bengals.

That post is vintage Brick. He lists Broncos twice, first as a model franchise then again as one he'd settle for. Then he simultaneously laments the Bears playoff drought while launching an underhanded complaint about Bears playoff losses that haven't even happened yet.

It is fundamentally impossible to agree with that post. He is just stringing you along.

Its all the QB. If you have a great one, you will be great. If you have a bad one you'll be bad.

Andy Reid never got that lucky run with McNabb or Smith like we've seen from Eli or Flacco. If nothing else, Reid has shown that he can take a mediocre-good QB and push him close to the next level...you just need to catch lightning in a bottle if you don't have one of the greats.

They're not, but they're only a notch or two below. I guess you'd have to make some process-over-outcomes argument. That or the fact that the Cardinals were an "are they still even in the league" team for so long that even being mediocre looks great.
