Poles appears to be slowly erasing all of the Pace guys off the roster. I wouldn't be shocked if the offense didn't have a Pace player by 2024.

A back that can pass pro, and catch the check down is a key component to make this offense go, especially when teams don't buy play fakes on play action, it should be an easy 5-7 yards, the QB reads the D, and drops it to the back who flares out into an open area if he does not have to pick up a blitzer.

It seemed they thought Ebener could fill this position, but he struggled to learn the playbook making him a liability in pass pro and caused him to play slow because he didn't know where to line up or what to do, it will struggle to make the roster this year.

There are a ton of experts who think Johnson will be at the minimum a solid NFL back and could be a real asset due to his diverse skill set.

I think they see him as Montgomery's replacement, but a whole lot less expensive.

I think that he may have the most upside of all of their picks in that he was an important leader of that team and also that he didn't get beat up as much as other more highly rated backs in the draft. I love his vision and versatility also.

Herbert plays faster than all of the video I've seen from Johnson. He's not explosive, but he's far closer to being explosive than Johnson. The only legitimate knocks on Herbert is his blocking and durability.

I'll hold off on any conclusions about Johnson.

Herbert was near the top of YPC across the entire league when he got hurt. I'm perfectly fine with him being our starter and supported by more multi faceted players.

Johnson seems like a Monty clone, and I liked Monty.

He averaged less than 1 reception per game in college as well. David Montgomery caught 76 passes in 29 games on passes mostly from Fields (or worse). Herbert caught 23 passes in 30 games. They don’t throw to him for a reason.

He has 28 targets and 23 receptions. I think Herbert's lack of opportunities had more to do with his blocking than his hands.

It will be interesting to understand how the Bears viewed him - whether as a LT, OG or if they thought he could transition to RT. Either way, if the Bears prioritized drafting the best RT, I'd be curious how Paris Johnson factored in also.
