I think Vildor was miscast as an outside corner out of necessity. I think he could have developed as a nickel but then Pace just kept on drafting people with the same deficiencies.

Rubbish. Not with the great defensive secondary that they have as well as the upgrade in the linebacking corps. Their weakness is the interior line being able to stop good running backs.
