This strikes me as complete bs.

Based on media reports, Davis was present for most or all of training camp. He simply wasn't taking part in the practices. What does his failure to participate in practices for which he is present have to do with his mother? And why is he still not playing now?

Eberflus and Poles appear to have lost control of this team--if, that is, they ever had it.
