So how does this work in season? Can they hire someone from the outside to fill spot or do they have to promote from within

Nate Davis missed time in camp because he mother was dying. He missed the game on Sunday because his mother died. Coaches don't miss time for anything. They plan everything around coaching. I suspect Williams objected to getting his play calling duties taken away. His time off on Sunday was based on that. Anything additional is likely a "graceful" exit strategy.

I wonder if Eberflus calls Rod Marinelli? I wouldn't hurt to add another coach that has lost 13+ games in a row.
