Cut bait with a bunch of rookies after two games. Smrt.

It's really amazing you don't have a job in an NFL front office.

Fields threw with anticipation about 4 times today. That's encouraging.

Darnell Wright looked average at best.

We had the #1 overall pick and most cap space and this roster doesn't seem to be upgraded.

No evidence to suggest Poles is good at his job

Poles gets one more full year in my mind. Last year was a full strip down. By the end of next season, we better see a roster with NFL talent.

Why? This is Emery levels bad. Failed to see Fields didn't have it. Failed to use all that money to make the 2023 team better than 2022. The Claypool trade continues to haunt him. Failed to pull the trigger on Jalen Carter when he was right in front of him. Lots of red flags.

I told you guys they should have taken a quarterback with the 1st pick.

That is something you can be encouraged by in their first few starts. But this guy has almost 30 starts.

It is time to come to the realization that he is a good guy and a hard worker, but he just is not an NFL QB.

I've criticized him a lot. I'm looking for whatever victory I can get. He had 1 throw last week and 4 this week. Maybe we are looking at exponential growth.

We've seen this before with good rex bad rex. When you have to separate things into good and bad you basically don't have a QB. You have a good QB when you tolerate the bad because the preponderance of all the data you have says this QB is legit.

There really has been no "Good Fields" games. Even (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky had some good games. He's just bad, bad, bad.

After the game, I was thinking about Rex. He confounded me because of some his good games and good games.

Fields just isn’t showing enough. Love his talent. I question everything between the ears.

I think it's more of a wiring thing. He's not wired to throw to spots, throw before the guy makes his turn, etc, all this stuff about anticipation. Something inside of him skews more conservative where he needs to see it rather than visualize it in his head then throw based on what he predicts will happen. The conservative part of him makes him suited for a lot of things just not NFL QB in 2023.

As someone pointed out up thread, the Bears coaching staff does seem to have told Fields not to rely on his running to bail him out at the first sign of trouble...so maybe Fields can learn.

Tho throwing to a spot and not a guy and trusting the receiver to be there is like hitting a curve-ball--if you didn't learn it before you get to the Show, unlikely you'll ever be able to do it consistently.

But maybe Fields can do it enough to combine with his other skills to hold on to at least back up spot. Although Fields doesn't seem like the kind of QB teams like to have hold the clipboard, and not just cuz he be black--tho that's part of it, white mediocrity is rewarded among NFL QB's (see: Nathan Peterman) as much as it is irl off the field in any other line of work.

Nathan Peterman isn't mediocre. Nathan Peterman is the worst quarterback in NFL history.

Maybe Poles applied the Peyton Manning/AA-Ron model of having a backup QB the coaching staff would rather cut off their own dicks than ever have to play in a game.

I kinda like P.J. Walker. iirc, he beat Tom Brady last season playing on a shite Carolina team. Walker had a rough pre-season but I thought they should give him a go as he's more of a potential unknown whereas you know what you're getting (or not getting) with Peterman. Walker's 3rd string QB for the Browns now.

He knew that Fields probably didn't have it. But the uproar of trading him was something that George and at the time Ted didn't want any part of.

Fields is Vince Evans except without the deep ball threat. Vince could at least run for his life behind a Revie Sorey and a Dan Jiggets and then throw the ball 60 yards down field and hope for the best.

They are not going to get the #1 pick again, so they are not going to get Caleb Williams.

Fields just isn't the guy. It's blatantly obvious. I'm not even sure what the right move is right now. I love Bagent but I do not want to shove him into a starting role with this line with getsy calling the shots. This entire coaching staff seems like the inevitable conclusion of the Peter Principle. No one has proven they are worth keeping. It is an entire disaster from the top down which should have been easy to identify. But no one identified it, and the bears will not make any meaningful changes after week 2, because they never have. 22 was supposed to be the tear down. 23 was supposed to be the get better year. 24 was the go for it year, and if that didn't work, 25. But 23 looks like a shittier version of 22. No one is doing well. No one seems to know what they are doing. This is the worst franchise in the NFL and it isn't even close,

I thought the team had a pulse today. There were some encouraging things to takeaway from this loss:

The Herbert and Johnson tandem is really good
Our rund defense continues to be solid
Jaylon Johnson finally forced a turnover and he's creating an island
Fields was an excellent passer for 2 drives
The defense played with a lot of heart shorthanded
Moore is always open
