Idk. To me id want the Campbell and trust that he can find a Ben Johnson over hiring Johnson and hoping he turns into a Dan Campbell. But since the "charter franchise" does nothing except hire inexperienced GMs and HCs I'm sure if the market consists of Tomlin,. We can debate the retread thing - Reid, Belichik, etc - are retreads Shanahan, McVay, etc are not, but yes even a successful retread at some point was a Ben Johnson waiting for an opportunity. That said, I think you're underestimating the culture change Campbell fostered. He is definitely responsible for Detroit's turnaround while Johnson appears to be a very good playcaller. Both can be true. But you need a rock at the HC and Campbell appears to be that. Johnson will need to display those same CEO qualities since a promotion means less time digging into playbooks and more time telling different players and functionaries to get their shit together otherwise there will be consequences.
