I found it interesting how the broadcasting crew were singing the praises of Bagent to high heaven in the first half and the gradual back down to earth reality when he shit all over himself in the 2nd half.

I looks to me that the kid is a true gunslinger who will throw the ball in a general area when pressured and will not take a sack or throw the ball away when he should. He also appears to not be very accurate on the longer routes. I do question his arm strength on those throws.

Arm strength is also accuracy. For instance, a strong arm can throw a long ball at 80% whereas a guy like Bagent has to go 100% and of course the accuracy will suffer.

They confused him a few times. I expect for him to learn from that. The pressure of the moment is a different animal. Rabbit choked. Now it's back to the lab again.

He wants to throw to the middle, the Saints recognized this preference, and baited him into doing it when he shouldn't have. It was like taking candy from a baby.

Eberflus threw the receivers under the bus for coming back to the ball and route running. He even knew Bagent's quarterback rating and stats at the end of the 3rd quarter. There is no question Bagent is his guy.

He's never done this with Fields. He also said Bagent was being a good leader by saying the picks were "All on me."

Eberflus blamed the receivers for their routes.

I haven’t gone back and looked at the interceptions, but to me at first blush it looked like the guys were open and they were just bad passes

One may have been questionable. I believe it was a pass to Mooney.

It looked to me like the Saints baited Bagent into thinking the receivers were open. Bagent doesn't like to throw deep outs or other sideline patterns. He wanted to throw over the middle, and the Saints wanted him to think it was OK to do that.

I think It's safe to say Eberflus was one of the guys that was feeding Collinsworth information.

Both Eberflus and Getsy. Possibly Poles, too.

Bagent is good for an undrafted rookie; he just doesn't appear to be special in any way.

He appeared to second himself twice and didn't have the arm strength to overcome it. The other one may have been questionable.

If you gave Fields his processing ability and quick release, we would have a HoF prospect. Bagent just doesn't have a starter's arm.

I'll repeat my comment from the other thread. Bagent is an undrafted rookie...it showed yesterday. I'm still more comfortable with him than Fields at this point. He made some bad passes, but you expect that from a rookie. I at least appreciate that he seems to at least see the field and make decisions better than Fields, Mitch, or any of the other clowns the Bears have had over the last 10 years. He may not have the ceiling of starting NFL QB, but there's something there to develop.

He's a better quarterback than Fields. Fields wouldn't be in the league if he wasn't an otherworldly athlete.

Bagent did exactly what you have hoped for from a veteran backup. I think some people see his work as a negative. I feel very good about having a low cost backup who still has room for development but can go in there and win games immediately.

We've won back to back home games for the first time in about 4 years. I'm good with him as our backup. He may cause problems for a rookie draft pick.

You have stumbled across an inexpensive long-term backup QB, which is a relatively important position in the NFL.

You could see that he learned a lot from last week's game and has quickly realized he does not have the arm talent to his late downfield throws in the NFL, which means he learned more in two weeks than Fields picked up in two years.

Because he was an UDFA you only have him under control for two more years, so not exactly long term

Josh Lucas nailed it about Bagent. His arm strength is questionable "off platform". He threw numerous dying quails last night. He could have a lot more picks. Seems to have an angel on his shoulder. Dink and doink short pass specialists are a dime a dozen. Even as a backup you want a guy who can throw down field for a high leverage 1st down. Hopefully Fields stays healthy the rest of the way to conclude his prolonged evaluation.

I don't think last night's game revealed much about Bagent. The Bears barely managed to beat a horrible team missing some of its key players. Against a competent team, Bagent would have thrown multiple interceptions. His other victory as a starter came against a team that fired its coach and GM shortly after losing to the Bears.

If we were laser focused on every team, we could say similar things about their quarterbacks. He a .500 quarterback as a D2 rookie. He's been brilliant and bad in these 4 games. He's shown enough to make anyone comfortable with him as a backup. He's far better than Chase Daniel and MANY/ALL of the backups we've had over the past 20 years.

He's more athletic and has a better arm than Daniel, but he doesn't seem any better right now. He's a guy. Hopefully he will improve as he moves along in his career. Some guys do, some guys don't.

Because he was an UDFA you only have him under control for two more years, so not exactly long term

Can't they also extend him pretty much whenever though? The Bears have all the leverage here. Extend his contract for two more years with a little more money and let him develop.

As you've pointed out, he struggled with the Colorado School of Mines less than a year ago and now he is playing as a capable NFL quarterback. You never know if one more offseason sees a similar improvement and you either have an insurance plan for the next failed Bears first round QB pick or you trade him to the Jets once Aaron Rodgers goes to the Vikings as is his destiny.
