The Chicago Bears have officially started their pursuit of receiver Roy Williams, according to a league source with knowledge of the Bears' thinking.

Williams was released by the Cowboys Thursday afternoon. He previously flourished in Mike Martz’s system while teamed with Martz in Detroit. Martz also has strong ties to Bears receivers coach Darryl Drake, who coached Williams as Texas.

Greg Olsen The Bears have been looking for a big receiver to complement their group of speedy targets, and the need for such a receiver just became greater with tight end Greg Olsen being shopped for a trade.

The 6-foot-3-inch, 215-pound Williams is entering his eighth NFL season. He caught 37 passes for 530 yards and five touchdowns last season with Dallas.

I'm a cowboys fan first and bears second.....and NO WAY do the bears want this guy. He quits on routes, runs bad routes, drops balls, and all of the above.

He has the size and ability and all...but unless there is a change in his performance and effort, I hope the bears stay away.

In Nas-like fashion I will predict a Roy Williams Career-Renaissance (renaissance being somewhat inappropriate - implying that he actually had some type of worthy career prior to this, but I'm going with it).

He's now been cut. Realizes this is it. Has been reunited with the genius of Mike Martz.
