...who wouldn't be upset if they didn't re-sign Olin Kreutz? I'm supposed to be affraid that they may not bring back a guy who was part of one of the worst offensive lines ever?

If he comes back....cool, whatever. But if they decide to perhaps make some sort of trade or even move Garza to center, I wouldn't lose sleep.

No, you arent the only one. I dont think Kreutz has much left in the tank. There just doesnt seem to be many other options out there.

But but but Larry said he can play for three more years!

I would like to see Olin here this year. His value is not his pure talent, but the guy who makes the line calls.

However, just because he makes the calls, doesn't mean he makes the calls right. So, the question is who is the guy that will take over that role?

That would probably happen and that's why you should be afraid.

Olin Kreutz is one of those guys that you are not going to realize how good he was/is until he is gone. I have a feeling that once he is gone, Bears fans will realize just how important he has been to this team.

Remember a couple years ago how so many were bitching about Urlacher saying he was done and they needed to get rid of him, then he was out with the wrist injury and folks saw how important he really was to this team.

You'd just be moving suck into a different spot. Of course I would like them to improve the line as much as possible, but all of the Kreutz talk is maddening. He's not that good anymore. What is this uproar about? Every show I listen to, there is a host telling me the Bears have to get this done.

...and don't give me the leader bullshit.

I wouldn't be upset if they let him go. It's like saying, "Dempster can't leave because he is our #1 starter?"

I'll save 75% of my anger for the awful Cubbies and 15% toward Angelo for not having a "talented" replacement on the roster for Kruetz and the rest goes to my X wife.. BITCH!

When will we notice? When Cutler is sacked 50 times this year or when we average 72ypg on the ground? Or will it be when we don't convert a 3rd and 1?

Doesn't matter if he is good, our OL can't be worse: with or without him. He's old, this free agency period is stocked, the Bears should make the move to replace him now.

I think with a couple guys next to him that he wouldn't have to constantly cover for, he'd look a little better than he has. Even so, I'd say he's still above-average and a solid leader for the line and the team. I would not be pleased if they let him go.

UNLESS - they get a solid replacement who is young with experience in the league but I don't think that guy is out there.

Exactly. I just find it hard to listen to someones argument when they tell me how important this guy is to the O-Line. To me, that means he almost needs to go. That line was horrible. He's not a priority, imo...

Yeah because it was his fault that he had shit next to him on both sides for the last couple of years.

So if this year's free agency is stocked, then name me 3 guys right now that are going to make the Bears line so much better

So you're saying the line problems were not at all his fault? He's just as good as he's always been?

Well of course he isn't as good as he has always been, age naturally changes that.

But he is 1 piece out of 5. The majority of the blame for this line does not fall at his feet. He has basically had to play his position and help out 2 awful guards the last couple of years. That is going to take its toll on anyone.

I'm not saying the blame is all or mostly his. I would feel the same way if any of the other linemen were in the same position. I just don't understand the sense of urgency to bring any of these guys back...

Since the blame is not all or mostly his fault, my point would be that they should direct their energy in replacing the rest of the line realizing that Olin is going to be just fine for another year or two, especially if you can put even a couple average guards next to him. I don't think there is anyone on the market right now that is any better than Olin, so they should bring him back and focus on working on the rest of the line.

We have been discussing the Center position. Keep up.

In reference to Olin I was asking for guys who would right now step in and be better than him at Center.

But thanks for copy and pasting names from a list of OL free agents, most of which you know nothing about.

The last ones were all Centers for you. And how about you start making sense. Let's sign Kruetz because we will miss him. He is so good. He is a leader. Blah, blah, blah. Overrated and easily replaced on a line that is in rebuilding mode.

And the bottom line is: he is old and will not be here in three years. Screw him, and sign someone younger who can come in and suck with the rest of the line.

I think you have to keep Olin because you are clearly in "win now" mode. This Bears team is not in rebuilding mode because most of the defense is old.

But would the line become worse without Kreutz?

I hate to break it to everyone here, but the Bears making it to the NFC Championship was a complete fluke last year. The roster as it stands is not winning a Superbowl. Major changes are needed along the OL, receiving corp, and secondary.

The two guards are worse. Kreutz won't hurt you and provides some continuity for a young guy like Webb. Spend the money and replace the guards and nobody will need to worry about Kreutz.

Also, you've already signed a young center with potential for the future. Kreutz can groom him.
