Since when does a preliminary illegally leaked report that has not been thoroughly vetted and validated by police captains justify a journalist running with it? Did the journalist in question verify the speculation provided by the cop's draft report? There are many preliminary draft reports from police officers that are reviewed, revised and edited because the facts contained therein cannot be verified. Every cop and journalist on the police beat knows this. And every cop knows they cannot leak this stuff to the media, even when the reporters are camped out in their office. Any journalist who runs with an illegally leaked preliminary report draft ought to be fired for incompetence for not getting at least two sources to verify the information. He can take his place in the unemployment line behind the police officer who leaked it to him.
