Been reluctant to post this for years, but here goes...

I think it was the year Steve Stone was with the Sox.
He came into the Lodge with one our underage (19 or 20) semi regulars on a Saturday night early. I served them in the front window. One drink and out about 9:30.

I was jealous as she was a real JAP. Luscious.

Forward 2-3 months and she comes in and sits at the bar and mentions a party she heard about at Bill [redacted]'s condo. I say, "you wanna go?". Sure enough we went to the party the next Saturday and split a 714 and had a beer. And we went upstairs to Ray Floyd's bedroom where all the coats were and locked the door and had at it. Good job. Good job. A 714 hit is one of the best evah.

It was a co-op apt actually on Cedar St. And Ray was hardly ever there.

The year before I was at another Halloween party there and who comes in about 11PM to crash in Ray's room? Clinton fucking Eastwood. He wasn't a BIG star then and did not join the party.

Good times on The Street of Dreams in the 70's.

Yes. Ludes. The real thing. They were great.

The 70's on The Street (as everybody called it) were amazing especially for a bartender in one one of the cool joints.

Reminds me of another Brush With Fame appropriate to this season.
I was living with two other bartenders at Sandburg Terrace and we had a small party of about 12 people just smoking weed and drinking beer when a Lodge girl shoes up with Bobby Douglas. MANY of us popped some MDA and it was a great time. Bobby was way cool. But he didn't do any MDA and I can't remember if he even smoked any weed.

The Street was wild. I once saw Jimmy Pappin chew a beer glass in the Lodge.

Isn't Jimmy in prison for defrauding MillerCoors?

Jeez, no idea. I haven't kept up with the street for years and years. I do remember him just getting richer and richer off his bar bidnesses. Most of that I know from the papers.

God, I loved The Lodge and the life.
I remember Tom Boerwinkle always used to stand in the fron t corner of the bar top so he could sorta hide. He was sane and just drank his beer and chatted.

On a Friday night after closing there would be 40 50 amyl poppers on the floor in the back where Bill [redacted] and his crew would party. "Stairway To Heaven" was there main popper song on the jukebox.
There was a drugstore on the corner of Division and Dearborn and Bill knew the Pharma guy and would buy boxes of Amyl every Friday from the guy.

Steve Stone and 2 Camaros would be a lot cooler.

RIP. A guy like that would probably only come to The Lodge to speak to the owner, Paul.
Remember Sully's on Elm? Bought out by Paul and his new partner Owen McKinney (RIP) around 1974 which was expanded and became The Hangge Uppe. Harry Caray used to hang with Sully (a Las Vegas shill) and frequent his bar. He came in The Lodge many times after 2AM for a few last pops. Would always sit at the bar. Great guy, good tipper, of course.
