I imagine most people on death row would prefer the vengeance of being locked in a cell vs actually killed. Shocking I know, but I don't think prison is vengeance in the same way the death penalty is.

If a crime is committed and punishment of the crime is the ultimate goal, then surely it's best practice that all crimes be capital offenses. This enusres that crime is punished and is also a disincentive to commit crimes in the first place.
