My ex-father-in-law was big in the Union League Club. I think his grandfather or great-grandfather was one of the founders. He was always after me to join that fucking thing. I had zero interest. It's a good thing too. When I divorced his stepdaughter he probably would have made me resign in disgrace.

He and I were business partners for awhile. He sponsored a guy we did some business with for membership in the ULC. When shit broke bad with business he made the guy tender a resignation letter.

One time we held a dinner there to raise cash for a business venture. We were pitching a private placement. I brought in every heavy North Shore douchebag that I knew. It was in a room that had naked boys swimming painted on the walls. Me and another guy that my father-in-law was always nagging to join started referring to it as the Pedophile Room.

Another time he took me down there and it was a bunch of white lawyers and traders drinking and smoking cigars while yelling at and betting on black teenagers boxing.

The downtown athletic clubs are a great alternative to either high priced meals in crowded rooms or greek diners if you are having lunch where you need to talk business. The workout facilities are ok but unless you are at the East Bank Club there is absolutely no eye candy as an incentive to exercise.

I don't like that place. Showed up for a lunch meeting one day (I was off that day) in jeans and was told that they can't let me in dressed like that. F. that!

Some places you need a jacket, others are "business casual". No jeans. I'm guessing you were in the Carvery. If you get a chance, you should check out the Pedophile Room:

Always wondered if Jerry used some of the information he had on "Big Jim" to get some of those great deals.

That would explain the "negotiations" with the chairman.

Please see GD's first post and read it carefully.

We are not breaking any news here.

Has anyone had a more meteoric rise and fall than Aaron Schock? Filled with promise and hubris, the one succumbed to the other today.

He'll be coming out soon as well in order to get everything out of the way before starting a redemption tour.

Can he take Lindsey Graham with him as well?

Would Mark Kirk qualify to make it a trio? (always wondered about him as well)

There have always been whispers about Kirk on the North Shore. His office used to be right next to mine. What a fuckin' weirdo.

http://www.politico.com/story/2015/03/a ... ml?hp=t1_r

Sounds like the fact he's gay is going to be the least of his problems.

Just heard a guy from politico on a local radio station and he said he has never seen a Congressman who has spent taxpayer money like Schock. He said their investigation is not done and they have more "loose ends" to tie up.

Apparently, there is going to be a story coming out regarding some Schock business dealings in Morton, IL which is just outside of Peoria. It is supposedly going to make all this look small.

Edit: I honestly thought when I heard he was resigning I thought it was because someone was going to out him.

It is usually a sign that a deal has been made with the US Attorney when an elected official resigns quickly. Otherwise, the office is leverage for bargaining.

If you guys had an office would you decorate it like Dowtown Abbey?

I'd be happy with a comfortable chair and a small fridge.
