looks like another year of no team from this state making the NCAA

That is a very difficult feat to go multiple years without having a team from a state with a major population not make it. Iowa might get 3 this year.

Illinois State was one half away from making it which is closer than anyone else can claim. Pretty sad. I
like Groce and still have hopes for Illinois the next two seasons.

I don't follow it anymore, but I assume DePaul is well on its way to its first #1 seed in 30 years.

if you took players off every program in Illinois, could you compile a decent team?

This amazing drought of talented teams in this state is killing its popularity. Its what happens when you are out of the media spotlight for years and years, just ask the Sox.

I have suggested it for years an ILL TOURNEY. The irony is that many of the teams dont want to play it because THEY ALL SUCK. I have agreed with the ILLINI reason for not being in the Tourney, with a claim they have nothing to gain....well, that reason is leaving the room fast!

These programs are all dieing a slow death and need something to get their name out for.

I would say the program with the most upside right now in the state is Northwestern...and when that is the case, you need to change some things!

Is year 3 too early to call Gross a failure?

I believe he has a good recruiting class coming in. Failure a little strong at this juncture.

For those of you who don't listen to B&B(no one).

They had one of their groupies email in who said that Oliver Purnell had never made an NCAA tournament and had never been fired and it was unprecedented in all of college basketball for a career as long as his.

DePaul should keep him to put that record out of reach before Chris Collins gets it.

Edit: It was actually had never WON a game in the NCAA tournament.

I think Collins will get NW in unless he goes elsewhere first. But I thought Kevin O'Neill was gonna get them there also.

Your top recruit is a 6'3" gard rated #45. Of course its not bad, but for the most part, guards are awesome in HS and when in college are just another good player. Granted you need a good guard, but I always think you can find a guy. Get me a difference making PG top 5 type, then I am excited about it.

Then DJ Williams from Simeon. A good player, top 100, just not special. Great MAC team, below average Big 10 team. Groce seems like a really good coach, but half the battle in college is recruiting.

Illinois is a tough place to recruit to. Not a spectacular anything down there. When you need to try and go head to head with schools that built new facilities, you just dont shine.

Purnell and Clemson were in the NCAA tourney 3 times. Be smarter, dont listen.

Oh, I'm actually wrong.

It was that he had never won an NCAA tournament game.

Do not hold it against B&B. Hold it against me.

No thanks, would rather hold it against the greatest sports mind to never play a rec league, or HS game ever.

many moons ago, I ran a league. Had 6o-70 guys in the league. Rented out HOOPS one night a week. we had 6-10 PM 4 games one night a week. Had a good prize of dinner at HUGOS for winning team...had a quality newsletter, stats, etc. Had an overview of the previous week, etc. Some teams had 7, some 8...had some WSCR guys, jessie, judd, fish, etc.

Bernstein was a bears beat guy, the season was over, as we ran this in Jan and Feb, Judd tells me Bernstein is in. Then he is out. Then he is in. Then he is a maybe. So I get his number and call him...and I ask if he is in or out. he gives me some loong story about his hours and how much he works ,,,blah blah....thanks me for the invite ( I never really invited him), but he cant make it.

our loss for not learning how to 'pick n pop' or 'run stuff' from the master

Fairly certain he had the team he coached previous to Clemson in as well. I believe he started at Dayton. He also took Old Dominion to the tounrnament.

I thought at Clemson he was known for recruiting great talent and choking in the tournament. I'd settle for that with De Paul at this point.

I think it was a board member that emailed that into them.
But it was a downstate board member so they don't really count.
