Kluber was at 18K in 8 IP. Verge of history, one of the greatest performances ever.

This guy (not Francona) takes him out and puts in the mediocre closer, because Kluber had thrown 117 pitches. Not too long ago guys went well over 117 with no issues. Bad bad bad.

Hey. Guy. Francona was tossed earlier in the game. He didn't make the decision.

Maybe don't post anymore about baseball.

Apparently this wasn't Francona. Still, fuck whoever made this decision.

I'm sure when a manager gets tossed he makes no calls about the game from the clubhouse or anything anyway.

I don't see how he could.

Is there some magic box that allows one person to talk to another person from the other side of the room?

From what I understand, MLB is very watchful of this.

Or he has a clubbie run a message to the acting manager like...."hey dumbass take him out of the god damn game." Or something along those lines.

I agree with the move. He had thrown enough pitches that it made sense. If they over-extend him to try to tie/break the strikeout record, he would very likely be less effective next time out. There was no chance at a no-hitter, so it makes it a simple call.

I'd say a 21-strikeout game would be more historic than a no-hitter.

Pretty sure Ike gives a lot of shots about those.

The odds that he strikes out all 3 batters in the 9th are slim and not worth sending him out for another inning after throwing as many pitches as he had. Team goals come first. keeping a valuable piece of the team healthy is paramount to team success. I agree with the decision.

Considering he struck out 18 in 8 innings, I wouldn't call the odds slim, but I wasn't arguing that he should have pitched the 9th. My point was that the historical importance of 21 strikeouts would have weighed more heavily in the decision than the chance at a no-hitter (which aren't really that uncommon, except for perfect games).

the unwritten rules of baseball are not logical. you don't take out a guy with a no-hitter ever.

Then how does a team get a combined no hitter?

hurt, rain delay, returning from injury. bottom of 10th 0-0 game he's up to bat with the bases loaded. extreme circumstances. kind of like when you have something intelligent to say.
