Teams go thru scouting reports on the Homeplate umpire every night, they all have intricacies that each player wants to know. Yes, his seem more drastic than others but as seen above, Eric Gregg was next level at this long before Hernandez.

What can MLB do when he is totally protected by his Union?
I know they can't get rid of him, but they don't have to continue to give him postseason games and All Star games.

Do we know for sure that MLB is 100% responsible for those assignments?

He got less of them and promptly sued MLB for discrimination.

Good call Chet, forgot about that.

If those assignments are performance based- like the NFL- then his silly complaints and lawsuits never have a chance.

He totally lost the lawsuit.

Quote:
"The explicit reason MLB offers — that according to Torre, Hernandez 'has not demonstrated the leadership ability and situation-management skills in critical high-pressure roles on a consistent basis' — is presented in clear and specific terms.”

Can you imagine if they took away his home umpiring duties?

And calling the catcher in intrasquad scrimmages "Angel"

Sooner or later he is going to blow a call that will determine the outcome of a game, and it will end up costing a team a playoff appearance.

And we can thank the umpires union for keeping this fool still in the game.

No doubt he is terrible. But it kinda balances itself out. He will call 3 that are out of the zone strikes and then 3 that are in the zone balls

That's the point. There is no consistency. Most guys will tell you if the guy has a wide or small zone they won't have an issue with it as long as its the same for the entire game and for both teams.

KD is a patched umpire for high school and he would probably do better than Angel.

I just can’t stop calling slightly low and outside pitches strikes. I love them.

And that's why my daughter would like you to umpire her games.

I have to think that assholes like this jerk are just intentionally being assholes and trying to get people to attack him so he can get a lawsuit out of it. It does point out, though, the shitty system that is baseball umpiring over-all. Its pathetic and when at least half of your umpires and referees are by nature jerk-offs, the entire game suffers for it.

That maybe the worst call I have ever seen.

If you try and draw a line at the front of the batters box and the front of the plate that should give you an idea of if he went halfway (give or take a few degrees on my poor markup attempts). Angel's probably wrong, but it's not the worst call ever. Never trust the camera angles.

It is kind of funny watching him screw over other teams and watching the Jomboy replays, but then when it eventually happens to your team it sucks so bad. This guy is a disgrace to the profession.

Ok maybe the camera angles aren't the best. But you can't watch that in real time or slow mo and say thats a swing. He barely started moving his arms and stopped almost immediately. Plus, Angel Hernandez gets zero benefit of the doubt ever because he's fucking terrible.

Somebody like Quinn Wolcott makes that call and ok he blew 1 out of 99. You deal with it and move on. Not Angel. He is beyond awful.

Of course. Harper isn't going to miss his chance to tell Angel he shouldn't even be umpiring Little League.

I absolutely detest employee performance systems that do not reward good employee performance and do not punish or fire peoplewho aren't doing a good job. Hernandez and other umpires who do horse shit jobs should lose those jobs to minor league umpires who do good jobs and deserve promotions. Hernandez and others intentionally screw up calls in order to get attention. And even of some of these guys don't do this shit intentually, if the results are bad, they should lose their jobs for that.
