FF made a reasonable reply and I replied with an open mind and agreed with some of what he said. You made a drive by shit post and added nothing, as you often do in gun control discussions. Okay? A shit post. Ok dude you basically said that 2nd amendment supporters don't even know what the bill of rights is or what it contains. It's pretty typical of the anti 2nd crowd to simply assume people who don't agree with them are ignorant or stupid. Our rights are kind of like trademark laws in the sense that if you don't defend them, even if they're not directly threatened, you lose the right to defend them. Your commentary is ignorant. Oddly most gun owners I've interacted with are acutely aware of their rights... not just the one you don't want them to have. Of the thousands of gun owners I've met the overwhelming majority are very safe, very concerned with safety, educated and well intentioned. Like any other large group of course there's a mindless moron amongst them but your generalizations are rude and inappropriate. |

I go shooting a couple times a month on average. I have been to plenty of shows. Frequent several message boards. Most of my family are shooters, their friends are shooters. I've got a crew of friends that go camping once a year at a buddy's family farm and we set up ranges there... most of them bring their army and navy pals along (one year we had a guy parachute into the campground). I mean it's been a hobby of mine for 20 years and most gun guys are pretty social and love talking about theor hobby. Hell most of the guys I work with are gun guys. |

At my worst, I still wouldn't think that ~60 people dying due to a mass shooting is a fair trade in order for me and my friends to keep the toys we like playing with. |

IMU wrote: At my worst, I still wouldn't think that ~60 people dying due to a mass shooting is a fair trade in order for me and my friends to keep the toys we like playing with. The fair trade was the millions that already died for your rights, including your right to be an obtuse penis on a message board. I get that you think constitutional rights should be revoked when someone gets killed. You seem to be of the opinion that if something needs to be changed, murder rather than using a well thought out 200+ year old piece of legislation would be more efficient. While a sad thing, certainly not surprising. Look dude if you want to change things and you can get it going more power to you. All it will take is a constitutional amendment. If you can get the law changed I will abide by the law as I have been. Making shitty commnets here won't get it done. Work toward becoming what you want to be. |

Well-thought out? Maybe. Poorly written? Assuredly. The amount of Supreme Court cases, appeals and opinions written on the Second Amendment clearly show that this is not a straight forward issue. The Supreme Court itself has ruled one way or the other depending on the justices. I have a few views: • Freedom and liberty have limits. We have countless laws to adhere to. • The Constitution was not written in stone. We're discussing an 'amendment.' We must be open to further changes, as they are required. • If "security of a free state", as written, is the point of the amendment, then why can the owned guns be brought out before a time of crisis? The states' and individuals' freedoms are pretty secure at the moment, I would say. |
