I'm really want to how many of the backlogged Model 3's are the $35k base model. A model which has not yet been produced as Tesla has realized they will lose between $5-7k on each car they produce at that price point.

I don't follow Tesla. My brother owns one and loves it. The WSJ had a full review of the Model 3 a few weeks back, and said it drives better than top end German cars (handling especially). Those cars are well balanced. But Tesla has had a ton of quality issues, and they can't produce vehicles efficiently as pointed out in that link.

Auto manufacturing and supply chain management are things that takes decades to perfect.

I think he's losing that on every Model 3 at the current average price point. I've said it almost since Day 1: Tesla will never sell a single Model 3 at $35k. (They may decide to sell a token number to avoid the inevitable lawsuits, but the $35k model is pure vaporware.)

I think 2 major execs (including one on the job for a month) resigning today played a bigger role in the sell off we are seeing. That and multiple lawsuits filed by short sellers regarding the "funding secured" tweet.

Oh and also Tesla has failed to hit the 5,000 unit a week threshold since first doing so for that one publicity stunt. Even at the lower production numbers, they are finding 80-85% of the units produced have major defects (paint chipping before delivery, panel gaps, batteries not holding charge, etc). The $35,000 model is looking like it will never be produced as Tesla is going to lose several grand on each of those models. How many of the reservations are for the base model?
