Recall a Blackhawks-Red Wings game I was at first season of the Kane-Toews era where the
smattering (there were maybe/at most a dozen people in the lower bowl section we sat in) of fans there for
the Blackhawks boo'd for the entirety of a tribute speech to the recently deceased old man Wirtz owner dude.
I imagine his family had to be in attendance that night as well.
Blackhawks went on to win how many, 3?, stanley cups after that--look-out for the Bulls return to Jordan era greatness.

I don't imagine Virgina will get very many cheers honoring her "legacy" when she passes. More likely to start chanting, "HAIL, HAIL, THE WICKED WITCH OF THE MIDWEST IS DEAD! SHOULD HAVE SOLD THE TEAM INSTEAD OF GIVING IT TO MICHAEL AND TED!

Detroit's been lucky with owners (other than the Ford Family and Lions). Pizza-Pizza Ilitch Tigers/Wings and Bill Davidson Pistons/Lightning both pumped resources into their franchises and won championships ('cept Ilitch couldn't get the Tigers over the hump despite having a team with a rotation of Scherzer/Verlander/Price/Porcello -- 4 cy young winners and still couldn't get it done )

Pistons haven't won a playoff game since Davidson passed -- 3x's in the playoffs since 2009...3 sweeps out

Tigers and Wings haven't even made the post-season since Ilitch died. Wings breaking their 25 consecutive season playoff appearance run the year Ilitch kicked.

May I remind you that when Bill Wirtz died, he was loudly booed through his moment of silence. Not years after he died, but days after, in front of his whole family and the rest of the sclerotic organ-eye-zation that still venerated him. And the reaction to that was "well, that makes sense."

Pearl-clutching over booing a figure as onerous as Jerry Krause, whose personal and professional unlikability has been a key part of dynasty Bulls lore, is just representative of the weird genteel streak in NBA fandom where no fan is ever supposed to interact, misbehave, or otherwise behold what is before them. It's acceptable when Hawks fans do it but not when Bulls fans do it because going to an NBA game is supposed to be like attending a performance of Hamilton.

Spoken like a guy with zero concern for Kevin Durant’s emotional health.

This is worse then when the Nuggets didn't immediately retire Carmelos number after he demanded they trade him.

I’ve also learned this was all the fault of Jordan and Last Dance for portraying him in a negative light
If only that had never aired, no one would have booed

In fairness, as Carmelo said, Jokic may have chosen 15 to pay homage to Carmelo Anthony.

The whole thing was ridiculous
It was just a dumb promo to try and sell a few more tickets
You knew Jordan and Pippen wouldn’t be there
No one cares about a dumbass “ring of honor “
I’m surprised Phil was even there

My theory that it was done as a way to honor Krause in a way that was going to work a lot better than a whole day dedicated to him.

Let's say everyone that was important in the 3 peats is brought back on their own.
Jordan
Pippen
Jackson
Rodman
Grant
Even guys like Paxon, BJ, Harper, Longley, Bison Dele.

All of those days go very well. Everyone cheers.

Now you do Krause. It could have been 10x worse.

I think they thought that everyone would be so high on honoring Jordan even though Jordan wasn't there that they wouldn't boo Krause.

You're on to something here. I bet Reinsdorf has had a bug up his ass about Krause's treatment for the last four years and has been itching to do something about it and make everyone properly appreciate him. They knew fans would boo at the sight of him and had all the "shame on you, Thelma Krause is the most wonderful woman who ever lived (and Jerry was a talented GM)" stuff locked and loaded. On some level they had to know. It wasn't just about honoring Krause (he already has a pseudo-retired-number banner), it was about relitigating the Last Dance narrative yet again.

Comparing Krause's legacy to that of Dollar Bill is comical CH.

The old man reveled in being a cheap prick, and won nothing. Ever.

I doubt very seriously that fans would dislike Krause the way that they do if Michael Jordan and backstabbing Phil Jackson hadn't instructed them to dislike Jerry Krause.

Maybe he should have kept his "organizations win championships" thoughts to himself and enjoyed the ride from his office in Deerfield and then everyone in Chicago wouldn't have hated him so much.
