I have a gout flare-up in my finger of all places. Been dealing with it for close to a month now. Finally went to a doctor and got an official diagnosis and have some gout medicine, but can't start that until I finish the steroids for this flare-up. The steroids don't seem to be doing a damn thing. Luckily it's not very painful (unlike an attack on the big toe) and more of an annoyance, but I haven't been able to play golf and the weather is starting to turn.

Mac is the expert on it. I get it one or 2 flare-ups a year, but I don't drink or go crazy with meat. Sometimes big toe, sometimes ankle. If I notice it fast enough I can usually stop it from getting bad by taking a few Allopurinol. Easy to notice the toe, but since I'm somewhat active, I mistake the ankle being sore or having a sprain and not gout sometimes.

I seem to get it when I drastically change my diet (for the better) at Lent. I am good most of the rest of the year, even drinking more heavily during the holidays. Shellfish seems to trigger it more for me as well.

My dad gets it every now and then. Do the black cherry juice and turmeric pills. It helps him.
