Goddamn...the concept of this site is ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of good, charitable uses for it, but people seem to be using this as an end around to just standing on a street corner, panhandling.

Between DiCaro's funding of her vacation last week, to all the other bullshit you can get to by searching, it is fucking ridiculous.

The latest is a friend of mine that started one to get her dog an MRI on some bulging eye thing. Her basic explanation is that she's already spent more than a grand trying to figure out the eye thing, and she doesn't want to spend more. No bullshit. That was her first draft. No wonder 13 hours in she's raised all of 20 bucks.

Whatever. Motherfucker.

I know of one that is looking for $20,000 to fund an aau basketball team for one year. in two months, it has raised only $400...all from parents or relatives of the kids who are on the team.

Maybe they should have a bake sale.

Agreed. People can seemingly raise money for anything. Where did this attitude come from that the world owes you something? That shit should be limited to only cancer treatment or medical bills or basic necessities to live.

See, I have no issue for people raising money for charitable runs, etc...I've donated to plenty of them.

I'm not for funding a vacation or helping pay for their dog or some such shit. If my dog had an issue where expenses like this were needed, I'd be looking at what I can cut out to save money if I had to before anything else.

Yes, for sure... I have no problem with charitable fund raising either... but that's for a third party. If you're keeping the money yourself, it better be for something damn good. I'm torn on pets, but trips, luxuries, or anything else that isn't absolutely needed is embarrassing. Whatever happened to personal pride or shame?

I'm gonna start a GoFundMe for Boyd's bail when he goes all Boyd at someone for having 11 items in the 10-items-or-less lane at Jewels.

I don't go to the Jewels anymore, unless I have to...

I've given up on that crusade. Now I could give a fuck.

Kids have calmed me quite a bit...

I'd pay the whole damn thing. That's a worthy cause for a worthy blow-up.

If it was "my dog/cat needs the surgery to live", that is one thing.

IMO; To say "I have spent X amount of dollars and need more to maybe not even find out what is going on, and then I will need more for treatment" is ridiculous. Age of the pet also should be a factor. If this dog is like 11, while not terribly old, the mutt had a good run. If its a puppy, that is different.

Don't be intentionally obtuse. There's a difference between thinking the world owes everyone something and thinking that in a country as wealthy as ours, everyone should have access to basic health care and education.

This is why I specifically say that we are wealthy enough that we should provide health care for all, but health care is not a "right." In fact, you gave me the confused face when I said that, and the reason I said it is precisely for examples like this.

I have no issue with it. Either I'm going to donate or I'm not. Most of the campaign that I thought were dumb didn't get a dime. That tells me the system is working.

We have thousands of kids leaving grade schools who can't read.

Free college is hardly "basic education."

Can't agree with this one. There are too MANY cases of pets being put down, suffering, or just straight abandoned because people can't afford the vet bills for a treatable issue. A lot of Americans simply don't have the income saved to deal with their own medical problems. Let alone that of an animal.

On a side note, you don't have to donate to anything on gofundme.com if you don't want to.

Unlimited Medicare for everyone is hardly "basic healthcare." My old man is 93 and his medicare over the past few years probably has run into the millions. How many more years he'll keep hanging on I don't know.

We also have millions of people who would not be able to read otherwise. Where to you think almost universal literacy came from? Those damn public schools.

I'm glad you asked.

Basic health care should be a right granted to all.

there are no answers to these questions which is why there is no such thing as "basic" healthcare. unless of course you think basic = infinite.
