Free college is hardly "basic education."

Unlimited Medicare for everyone is hardly "basic healthcare." My old man is 93 and his medicare over the past few years probably has run into the millions. How many more years he'll keep hanging on I don't know.

So if your old man were 40, you don't think he should have received those treatments?

I'm glad you asked.

Basic health care should be a right granted to all.

I agree... I just don't like to use the word "right" but it's mainly semantics.

And my desire for national health care isn't ideological. I simply see how the private model we use now, couples with the ACA, simply doesn't work. It's very difficult to marry a profit motive with health care payment systems, IMO.

True all around.

That's for the death panel to decide.

Where did this attitude come from that the world owes you something?

hmm...Bernie Sanders?

Don't be intentionally obtuse. There's a difference between thinking the world owes everyone something and thinking that in a country as wealthy as ours, everyone should have access to basic health care and education.

This is why I specifically say that we are wealthy enough that we should provide health care for all, but health care is not a "right." In fact, you gave me the confused face when I said that, and the reason I said it is precisely for examples like this.

We have thousands of kids leaving grade schools who can't read.

Agreed? The quality of our education system is an issue he wanted to address when he started running for president in 2015.

Fixed

Can't agree with this one. There are too MANY cases of pets being put down, suffering, or just straight abandoned because people can't afford the vet bills for a treatable issue. A lot of Americans simply don't have the income saved to deal with their own medical problems. Let alone that of an animal.

On a side note, you don't have to donate to anything on gofundme.com if you don't want to.

Don't you think the context of this post could have been delivered with a Megan Fox .gif?

Great nomination.

In the last few days I have seen two that irritated me. First one for a girl I went to school with so that her and her boyfriend could take the vacation of a lifetime and ride their motorcycles all around the country this fall.

Then there was one by a mother for her daughter to be able to swim on this big travel swim team thing.

Neither of those are worthwhile causes and they take away from the actual real causes that are out there. If you want to take a vacation or have our kid on a travel team then YOU need to foot the bill, not expect others to pay for your crap.

Meh. These get thrown out there because there are asshole enablers who actually give them money. Stop giving and they go away. Just like the professional street beggars downtown. If no one gave them anything, they'd move on. But there are always enablers.

It takes what, 5 minutes to set up an account and place your begging ad? If you even near $100, you've done well. Why not try it?
