I can't take his forced inflection on player names in what has got to be a Bernstein-esque attempt at sounding more cultured than thou.

Wilson CONE-treras.

Tanner ROW-ark.

Alex AH-villa.

Just stop.

EDIT: Retracted. Just checked the MLB website page for Tanner Roark and Pat's pronunciation matches. You win this round, Mr. Hughes.

I've tried listening to the radio broadcast more often and this guy is awful.

When your on radio pbp you have to think in your head audience are all blind ppl.

He misses so many plays and the litttle things I don't understand why cub fans think so highly of him.

 What?

He's just pronouncing them in Spanish (or trying). It may not be perfect, but he's not mutilating them.

Someone find me something to bitch about!

Avilla told the Score that the way Hughes pronounces it is the correct way. But he has gotten used to the usual way you hear it.

Denied. Pat is one of the best.

Maybe he asks the players how they want their names pronounced.

Hughes asks these guys how to properly say their names.

OP is the dbag, not Pat.

Though he does tend to say "gahn" instead of "goan" in "Gonzalez," which could well be how Luis Gonzalez preferred it but to me always sounded how Mexican-resenting Lake Geneva people said it.

Except Wilson Contreras doesn't even say his own name the way he supposedly told Pat. In his radio spot he doesn't elongate the "oh" in his last name the way Pat does.

Dammit, nevermind, Pat's pronunciations match what MLB.com has listed for all the guys I mentioned, save for Avila, but that may be a clerical error. Need to recalibrate my antennae. I still contend that it sounds douchey, if not actually being overtly douchey.

Funny you posted this because I was going to Douchebag him for pronouncing Contreras as KOHHN-treras when, as you said, Wilson Contreras doesn't even pronounce his own name like that in his commercial.

Hughes reminds me of the Caucasian people in this SNL skit: http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/ ... 9970?snl=1
NBC News employees (Phil Hartman, Jan Hooks, Mike Myers, Dana Carvey, Julia Sweeney) over-emphasize Spanish pronunciation, but the new economics correspondent (Jimmy Smits), who's actually Hispanic, does not.

I think both Pat Hughes and Len Kasper are irritating.

Sidebar: That "actor" hosts the male equivalent of Julie's SJW podcast, More Than Sports or something like that. He wasn't actually a random actor that wasn't in on the bit of that video as they lead you to believe. As far as I know he also didn't start a GoFundMe to appear at the Peabodys.

Assuming you are correct and Pat Hughes is incorrect is a bad way to go through life.

Minorities shouldn't be allowed to use our water fountains.

Retracting a bad thought vs. continuing the fight on behalf of it is a sign of weakness, IMO.

This is the best nomination in a long ass time. So they don't have to speak American but we have to pronounce their foreign names in their foreign language correctly? No thanks.
