I turned on WSCR last night in the 2nd quarter of the Bears game to see if they were talking about the glorious happenings taking place at Soldier Field. I guess Laurence has said Cardinals' manager Mike Matheny is an idiot and a caller asked why he thought that. This isn't verbatim, but pretty accurate:

Caller: Why do you think Mike Matheny is an idiot?
Leery: He's bad at managing his pitching staff and he bunts too much.
Caller: Have you watched a lot of Cardinals games?
Leery: [sounding pissy and defensive]: I have watched a TON of Cardinals games. My wife is a Cardinals' fan. [In a flat and bitchy tone]: What's your next question?
Caller: What?
Leery: [Still In a flat and bitchy tone]: What's your next question?
Caller: Well, I just wanted to know why you thought he was an idiot.

Nearly every time I tune in to give him a chance it's not more than 10 minutes before he acts like a little Caller Bob to somebody. Jonathan Hood is the same way. I think they're not that bad for a few minutes and they do something like that every damn time.

I understand the risk I am taking by posting this. Leery is in all the hallways.

He does it quite often whenever someone disagrees with him. In fact, there was an instance a few weeks ago where he was talking about LeBron and Kyrie. A caller who had an opinion that differed from Hood's called in and Hood said "[Insert what he said here] so you lose that part of your argument right there."

The caller wasn't being antagonistic or argumentative, he just stated his opinion and Hood immediately got pissy and defensive.

He's been doing it for years.

Doing what? Being a tough guy or condescending?

I dont pick that up. Even when he's dealing with a moron he's pretty jovial

My bad, I was talking about Lawrence, not Hood.

Hood doesn't do the tough guy bit like Leery, he just gets defensive and condescending whenever a caller disagrees with him. I edited my previous post:

He does it quite often whenever someone disagrees with him. In fact, there was an instance a few weeks ago where he was talking about LeBron and Kyrie. A caller who had an opinion that differed from Hood's called in and Hood said "[Insert what he said here] so you lose that part of your argument right there."

They both come off as insecure (Leery for more reasons that Hood).

Wait. Leery was talking tough.?? Hasn't anyone taken that nerd aside and told him. No one is scared of a grown man that reads comic books, talks about super heroes, & is into Star Wars.

Leery and Goff could be douchebag of the week everyweek. Just name the award after them already.

So let me get this straight. Larry works nights when the Cubs don't play. He watches Cubs and Sox games, obviously. Yet he still has time to watch a "TON" of Cardinals games. Not a few. A ton? Really, Larry?

The caller caught Larry. Larry didn't know how to respond. So he lied. He obviously doesn't watch a ton of Cardinals games.

Here's the truth. Larry thinks the Cardinals manager sucks because Bernstein thinks the Cardinals manager sucks. It's really that simple. All of Larry's thoughts are given to him by Bernstein.

And Senor hates Matheny because Matheny is a vocal Christian.

Bernstein reads Sheehan's daily blog where he rips on the Cardinals/Royals managers for bunting, having a bullpen in a defined role (amongst other things), and takes it as gospel. He then reads it on the air, and Holmes picks up the flag and runs with it.

Holmes is just a very sensitive dude. Doesn't like being challenged, goes into defense mode very quickly and you can hear the tone of his voice change, etc.

Going to work out. Put on AM1000. Hood is on.

I know there's a loud minority out there on social media with the hashtag #sticktosports. Sports is everything to a lot of people. Maybe your life isn't they way to want it to be and you turn to sports as an escape from that. But, when I see what's happening the past few days in Charlottesville. Imagine if people are attacking you on social media or in real life because of the way you look, or the ideas you have...

Just about everyone (locally) on AM1000 can manage to talk about sports except for him. Just like Parkins, Spiegel, Bernstein, Holmes, etc., he just can't help himself.

Loud minority?
Maybe you're life isn't all you want it to be so you listen to sports radio?

Seems like a lot of these hosts on sports radio have to make it known to everyone they have to make comments on non-sports topics.

But don't we the regular listeners listen to sports radio to get away from daily life's problems?

Maybe some of these guy's ego's are too big to realize that.

I suspect they do it for the same reason actors do it. I think the perception is that people in those types of professions don't have "real" jobs and essentially play all day. As a result, some of them feel the need to prove they have depth and substance by talking about social and political issues. Actors have been doing this for a long time but it's just been the last few years that it has spread to sports media.
