Interesting how you yourself got defensive/irritable against me when I made some comments/opinions about my views in regards to the 2nd amendment.

Bob you don't make fun of the handicapped. We assume you've got a tougher character than to let words hurt.

Your comments were silly and intended to irritate or troll.
Again, if you can get a new amendment passed that overrules the current 2nd amendment go for it.

I cited an example of someone I personally knew...not sure why you got all defensive/angry..it wasn't directed at you.

Sure.

Though it was an easy joke at 8am and not an in depth condemnation of people's political views.

Not all 2nd Amendment warriors are necessarily mad at NFL players but I'd say there's close to a 100% probability that a person pissed at NFL players is also a 2nd Amendment warrior.

No, that's not true. And your use of necessarily in the first sentence tells me you're not even going to attempt to be fair about this.

I get that. IMU's post wasn't a joke and even as a joke it's still forwarding a lame stereotype meant to dismiss people who care about our Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Let's look at the top guys defending guns:

Ogie - more in favor of gun ownership and the NFL protests than maybe any one here. Should be enough to single handedly destroy that stereotype on this board.

Darkside - don't think he has an issue with NFL protests. Don't remember him vocalizing support for the protests or criticizing them.

Myself - same as Ogie

ToxicMasculinity - pretty sure he doesn't agree with the protestors but I don't believe he's ever once criticized their right to protest.

I'm not sure you can find one person on this board that fits that stereotype outside of Chas. And yet people who are otherwise bright like Zeph and IMU are happy to perpetuate it.

Go argue about (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky some more. This is the type of discussion you have shown unable to hold your own in.

Why? I do think there's significant overlap either way, but I think being mad at NFL players is much more predictive of being a Second Amendment warrior than the other way around. Who's someone currently mad at NFL players that doesn't happen to be a Second Amendment warrior?

Why do 100% of gun rights supporters not have their facts straight?

My dad and uncle, as well as my boss.

There are a lot of people that genuinely don't want to see sports get politicized. They think Trump is an asshole but they love our country, the flag, and the anthem, and they don't want to see people kneeling for it. I don't agree with this viewpoint, but I can understand and appreciate it without implying there are more hidden agendas behind it.

And yeah, a lot of people on the left and right are total hypocrites. We can just as easily flip this around and see all the people pushing for banning guns who support free speech too supposedly. Either way, if you're stereotyping others before even going into the conversation, it's pretty clear you're not looking to discuss the topic with an open mind. I've already pointed out how inaccurate that is when it comes to this board. The general public is no different.

In short I feel the protests have muddled the original message but NO MATTER WHAT, everyone has a right to protest.

Oh dude, c'mon man. You know I understand libertarians, no matter how much I'd disagree with them. Any self described libertarian would be pro-gun and also okay with kneeling during the national anthem.

If it was actually true, I wouldn't be laughing at the image. I'd be even more worried about the state of affairs in our great, but not perfect, country.

edit: Just so we're clear, going forward, I will be taking shots and making fun of any gun nuts as the opportunity arises, and this includes insults and belittlement. Additionally, I will be laughing at any jokes and memes posted that disparage gun nuts in any way. This doesn't mean that I don't think there are any rational gun owners out there that understand the need for additional gun control measures. That country band that took part of that festival even came out and said, as gun owners, that there need to be far stricter laws.

Ok, but you come off poorly when you say anyone defending the second amendment is a gun nut.

Would you say that there are some gun nuts out there that are preventing some sort of progress when it comes to gun control?

And if you believe the government should in no way regulate firearms, then why should they regulate anything?

Yes, I would agree with that. There are many bad hombres on both sides. I think grouping the rational ones in with the crazies prevents progress even more.

I still don't see how my use of necessarily was the least bit unfair since I was acknowledging the very existence of the libertarian position you're complaining that's being neglected. And again, I think most of the people genuinely pissed off at NFL players (not just annoyed or indifferent, but actively mad at them) also happen to be the extremely likely to be pro-gun. Sorry if you feel differently.

You're the only one discussing feelings. I'm sticking to what I know. It's easier in these discussions.
