i always thought rosenberg was a bit of a hack when it came to screenwriting. he complains of "independence day" rip-offs when he himself wrote a "pulp fiction" rip off with "things to do in denver when you're dead". he did have a couple good ones like "high fidelity" (thank the source material for that) and "con air" because it was goofy fun. his point about "who do we tell?" rings true to the old addage...selling your soul to get into hollywood. the guys that make you are most likely going to be real pieces of shit. and you have to kind of turn your back to it. if rosenberg is saying this shit in 2001, not only is his career over, his livelihood is. by that time, you're nothing else but a hollywood writer. no one will want a part of you in any part of that industry. for as much as i've wanted to be in the industry, and have done my damndest to keep nipping at the heels, i do not regret not moving out there to "make it". it's not just weinstein, it's nearly the whole damn town. i always think of nathanael west's "day of the locust". it's always been that way. that book goes back to 1930's hollywood. i'm glad i read that at an age before i could get sucked in to thinking a hollywood career was the most important thing. |

howard was playing a clip of a harvey interview he did back in 2014 i think it was. i don't think i ever heard that interview before but he even pressed harvey, asking if he did the "mogul" thing. harvey said "even if i wanted to, there are too many risks, too much money involved". he really made it sound like that was a by-gone era. he probably took a shower in front of an upcoming starlet later that very afternoon. |
