Seriously, why do so few of those assholes throw their hat whenever there is a hat trick? It's embarrassing. In any other hockey market you would see at least 100 hats hit the ice instead of the maybe dozen or so that did last night.

Throw your god damn hat on the ice. It's part of being a hockey fan.

I always wondered, do you go somewhere after the game and pick through the hats and get it back or do they dispose of them?

There was one team that was collecting them and making disparaging lays or something. Winnipeg maybe? I’m pretty sure the hat is gone. Nobody has time to pick through that stuff after a game.

A friend of mine is a Canuck's season ticket holder, they have a spot in the basement of their arena where you can retrieve your hat, otherwise it is donated.

I am of the mindset that it is ridiculous to throw anything on to the playing surface at sporting events.

This.

I love hockey, but I've always found that tradition to be dumb as shit.

Also dumb.

As is throwing a home run ball back.

Nomination Approved.

I don't even need to read the reason.

I'm not sure I know what that means, and I'm not Googling that phrase at work either.

octopus and home run ball, dumb.

Hat Trick, part of the game at every arena before I was born.

That's fine. Just because it's tradition doesn't mean it's not dumb.

I was very close to grabbing this old Hawks hat I never wear, before I left for the game. Then thought, nah, there won’t be a hat trick. Dammit.

Not that I wear hats but if I did why would I throw a perfectly good $30 hat on to the ice, never to be seen again?

If it is such a big deal then why can't the stadium just drop a bunch of hats from a net hanging from the ceiling or the underside of the scoreboard?

found Bernstein's account. The hats could even be sponsored!

But yeah the Hawks have one of the worst fanbases in the league, you can't be surprised. What do you expect from an arena where you can hear your own blood flowing?

I should add I was at the helmet giveaway game where Toews had the hat trick that was waived off for the stick being above the crossbar before he completed it later in the 3rd period. I threw my helmet for the waived off goal and was so fucking pissed until he got the one that counted.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPaFkdEneWY

More people threw them that game because 1: they were free giveaways and 2: the real fans hadn't been priced out of the 100s yet

If the team expects people to throw hats on certain occasions, it stands to reason that they should provide the hats.
